Best NFL DFS Week 5 Picks & Watch List: Top DraftKings & FanDuel Plays, 10/6
Navigating the daily fantasy football slate requires looking beyond raw projections to find elite match-ups, volume spikes, and structural value. Building a winning contest lineup begins with an early look at the NFL DFS Week 5 Watch List to track injury reports, snap counts, and salary movements across both major platforms. As Sunday's games approach, identifying core building blocks and tournament differentiators will separate the cash game winners from the field. Whether you are hunting for multi-touchdown upside at quarterback or looking for value in crowded backfields, these top NFL DFS Week 5 picks cover all your DFS contest needs on DraftKings and FanDuel.
NFL DFS Week 5 Watch List & Top Picks
The Week 5 Sunday main slate presents a unique tactical landscape for daily fantasy players. We drop down to an 11-game main slate on Sunday, with international scheduling taking the Philadelphia Eagles vs. Jacksonville Jaguars matchup across the pond for an early London kickoff. Furthermore, two teams, the Kansas City Chiefs and Carolina Panthers, are on their scheduled bye weeks.
Fantasy managers will also have to navigate a slate that lacks a massive chunk of top-tier, high-end fantasy producers due to prime-time scheduling. Josh Allen and Puka Nacua star on Monday Night Football when the Buffalo Bills visit the Los Angeles Rams, while Lamar Jackson (if healthy) and Bijan Robinson feature on Sunday Night Football as the Baltimore Ravens clash with the Atlanta Falcons. With these marquee superstars off the main slate, roster construction shifts dramatically toward finding the best balance of reliable mid-tier studs and bargain options. Keeping a refined NFL DFS Week 5 Watch List handy will help you pivot smoothly as late-week practice reports trickle in.
Recapping the Previous Week’s DFS Optimal Lineups
Looking back at the optimal lineups from the Fantasy Alarm DFS Week 4 Playbook, both DraftKings and FanDuel contest builds produced massive returns by correctly identifying low-cost value paired with explosive dual-tight end sets:

The key to last week's optimal lineup success was hitting on extreme efficiency in the value tier. Starting quarterback Jameis Winston unlocked immense salary flexibility at just $4,500 on DraftKings and $6,500 on FanDuel while delivering a solid 20.00-point fantasy floor. Running back Kyren Williams erupted as the ultimate anchor play, posting a slate-shattering 36.70 DraftKings points and 31.70 FanDuel points. Budget running back Emanuel Wilson, who made an appearance in the DFS Dart Board, smashed value expectations with 27.00 DraftKings points for only $4,700, while wide receiver Nico Collins carried target dominance into a monster 33.80 DraftKings / 27.30 FanDuel point performance. Deploying a double-tight end strategy with T.J. Hockenson (27.90 DK pts) and Brock Bowers in the FLEX (20.60 DK pts) maximized floor and ceiling, allowing the DraftKings build to hit 207.80 total points using just $45,000 of the $50,000 cap.
The problem in many contests was not having CeeDee Lamb. In fact, there were a few RB/WR duos that popped. Lamb and Javonte Williams, for one. We had Kyren Williams in the Playbook at low ownership, but we chose not to spend up for Puka Nacua in his first game back and, of course, the Kenneth Walker/Tyquan Thornton pairing. There were certainly people who had the pairings, but personally, I think they got lucky.
Using QB/WT or QB/TE is fine, but once you start pairing your QB/RB or RB/WR, then you’re moving into counter-intuitive stacking, and that runs a huge risk. In most cases, if your running back is popping off, you’re not going to get the same level of production from your receiver, or vice versa. Not every week is going to look like it did in Week 4, so while they may have bested us this time, their strategy is not going to work consistently, and that’s where we have our edge.
Best DraftKings DFS Picks for Week 5
Quarterbacks
- Joe Burrow (Cincinnati Bengals): Burrow remains one of the top NFL DFS Week 5 picks in a fast-paced matchup against the lowly Miami Dolphins. Even with wide receiver health up in the air, Burrow’s quick-release volume in high-total games offers elite floor-to-ceiling upside.
- Jared Goff (Detroit Lions): Goff takes on an Arizona Cardinals defense that has struggled to contain explosive passing attacks. Dome conditions and a high projected game total make him an ideal stacking candidate. It sounds like the Lions will have to wait at least one more week for their safeties to return, so more huck-it, chuck-it football is on tap.
- C.J. Stroud (Houston Texans): Facing the division-rival Tennessee Titans, Stroud’s deep-ball accuracy gives him a path to a multi-touchdown game, making him a cornerstone for your NFL DFS Week 5 Watch List. If the ground game was even just a bit more supportive, we’d lean there, but it hasn’t been, so hopefully it’s another Stroud-to-Nico Collins kind of day.
Running Backs
- D'Andre Swift (Chicago Bears): Despite fumbling issues in Week 4, Swift’s pass-catching usage and contract backing keep him firmly in play against the Green Bay Packers. His PPR floor makes him a strong mid-tier choice. Remember, Ben Johnson likes using two backs, so expect Swift to spend all week proving he won’t fumble again.
- Jaylen Warren (Pittsburgh Steelers): Warren continues to earn high-value touches in both the running and passing games, giving him double-digit fantasy projection stability against Indianapolis. The Colts have DeForrest Buckner clogging the middle, but Warren’s speed should carry him to the outside.
- Chase Brown (Cincinnati Bengals): Brown’s explosive big-play potential and expanding backfield share make him an ideal value play on DraftKings, where full-PPR scoring boosts his upside. Miami’s run defense doesn’t give up a ton of yards on the ground, but the Bengals offense uses the pass to set up the run, so I expect Brown to be involved every step of the way.
Wide Receivers
- Tee Higgins (Cincinnati Bengals): If cleared from his adductor injury, Higgins becomes the primary target monster in Cincinnati’s offense with Ja'Marr Chase navigating concussion protocol. If he is also out, then we’ll look to Dohnte Meyers.
- Amon-Ra St. Brown (Detroit Lions): St. Brown is a target machine in PPR formats. In a favorable matchup against the Cardinals, he serves as a premier cash-game anchor among high-end NFL DFS Week 5 picks.
- Nico Collins (Houston Texans): Coming off a 33.80-point DraftKings performance in Week 4, Collins remains a top-tier option given his massive air-yard share and red-zone priority. He’s back, baby! He is so back!
- Michael Wilson (Arizona Cardinals): Wilson offers budget salary relief while seeing consistent snaps and downfield targets opposite elite cornerbacks. People went nuts when they saw Marvin Harrison finally score a touchdown last week, but Wilson remains the alpha receiver in a match-up that should turn into a shootout.
- Michael Pittman (Pittsburgh Steelers): Revenge, baby. Revenge. If you caught my recent Hot Takes article, then you’ve heard about this already, but it never hurts to mention it again. Pittman's steady target volume makes him a high-floor WR2/WR3 play on DraftKings when building balanced contest lineups and if he is itching for some looks against his old team, Aaron Rodgers will be there to aid and assist.
Tight Ends
- Trey McBride (Arizona Cardinals): McBride remains the focal point of Arizona's short-to-intermediate passing game, offering a massive PPR target floor.
- Sam LaPorta (Detroit Lions): LaPorta’s touchdown upside in Detroit’s high-powered offense makes him a prime candidate to stack alongside Jared Goff.
- Isaiah Likely (New York Giants): With two-tight end sets becoming optimal roster builds, Likely provides low-cost vertical potential that can smash tournament slates. Jameis Winston should continue to target him heavily.
Best FanDuel DFS Picks for Week 5
All of the players highlighted in the DraftKings section above are strongly in play for FanDuel contests as well. FanDuel's half-PPR scoring structure and touchdown-weighted payouts slightly boost touchdown-dependent plays, making the following players priority plays on the platform:
- Kyler Murray (Minnesota Vikings): Ownership should be low considering how bad things looked in Minnesota last week. But Murray’s dual-threat rushing ability elevates his floor and ceiling on FanDuel, where rushing yards and touchdowns carry enhanced value against Detroit.
- Quinshon Judkins (Cleveland Browns): Judkins provides raw power and red-zone conversion equity, fitting the exact profile of a high-ceiling FanDuel tournament option. The Jets defense ranks 26th against the run according to DVOA, and they were wildly exposed last week by the Bears.
- Denzel Boston (Cleveland Browns): Yes, the Browns are 3-1, and we’re recommending them for DFS. What a world in which we live! Boston’s downfield receiving profile and expanding snap rate give him big-play potential at a soft salary cap price.
- Mike Gesicki (Cincinnati Bengals): Facing a Miami defense that surrenders high yardage totals to tight ends, Gesicki’s red-zone presence makes him an exceptional half-PPR value on FanDuel. It’s also a dynamic revenge game, especially if Ja'Marr Chase and possibly Tee Higgins are out.
DFS Value Plays & Sleepers to Target in Week 5
Spotting under-the-radar sleepers is critical when compiling your final NFL DFS Week 5 Watch List. These four bargain options provide key salary relief to help fit elite stars into your builds:
- Jameis Winston (New York Giants): Proven as an optimal value play in Week 4, Winston offers aggressive downfield passing that unlocks huge tournament upside at near-minimum price tags. I definitely think we can run this back.
- Kyle Monangai (RB): Monangai showed impressive efficiency in Week 4 and continues to see high-value red-zone carries in Chicago’s shared backfield rotation. His price is low, considering what he did to the Jets, and while that would be a tall order to duplicate, he should still be plenty productive in this matchup.
- Carnell Tate (WR): Boasting a 26.9% target rate through four weeks, putting him in elite rookie company, Tate is priced well below his true volume floor. Check out what I wrote in this week’s 5 Things We Learned from Sunday’s Games and you’ll be on board too.
- Greg Dulcich (TE): The ultimate dart-throw, but we’re using tight ends against the Bengals, right? Dulcich gives salary-strapped builds a low-cost tight end option with legitimate intermediate pass-catching involvement.
NFL DFS Strategy Tips for Week 5
- Embrace the 11-Game Slate Dynamics: With four major fantasy engines sidelined by London games and bye weeks, do not over-concentrate ownership on a single game stack. Spread leverage across multiple mid-tier matchups.
- Prioritize Target Shares Over Previous Week Points: Focus on underlying usage metrics, such as Carnell Tate's elite target rate, rather than chasing flukey touchdown scores from Week 4.
- Monitor Tight End Defense Trends: Continue attacking defenses like Cincinnati that allow massive tight end yardage. Stacking tight ends or utilizing them in the FLEX remains a viable tournament strategy.
- Leverage Platform Scoring Differences: Direct target-heavy receivers to DraftKings for full-PPR scoring while funneling high-touchdown running backs to FanDuel. Incorporating these core strategy principles into your NFL DFS Week 5 picks will give you a decisive edge across all Sunday contests.
