NFL DFS Ownership & Leverage Week 5, 2026: Best Chalk & Contrarian Plays
The injury report is running this slate again. Ja'Marr Chase is in the concussion protocol, Tee Higgins and Jordan Addison are questionable, Justin Jefferson says he plans to play on a bad ankle, Breece Hall, Adonai Mitchell and Kyle Monangai are out, and Ashton Jeanty is questionable after missing Friday's practice. Ownership has been moving with every update. Let's get into it.
Here's where I've got my money, straight from Fantasy Alarm's DK and FD models: the chalk that's earned it, the guys nobody's touching who should be owned, where the real leverage lives, and how I'd actually build around all of it.
NFL DFS Ownership Projections Week 5
Lions-Cardinals is the game everyone's building around, the highest total on the board at 54.5 with Detroit -5.5. Texans-Titans sits at the opposite end at 37.5 with Houston -7.5, and Browns-Jets (39.5, Jets -2.5) isn't much higher. Bengals-Dolphins is the biggest mismatch on paper, Cincinnati -7 against a Miami team that is 0-4 and averaging 11.5 points a game. The weather is worth a look too: Colts-Steelers (98% rain), Giants-Commanders (99%) and Browns-Jets (90%) are all expected to be wet.
Highest-Owned NFL DFS Players
The top of the board is a Detroit and Arizona pileup. Gibbs leads DraftKings and is close to 45% on FanDuel, Michael Wilson and Trey McBride sit right behind him, and D'Andre Swift jumped to 30.8% once Kyle Monangai was ruled out. Justin Jefferson is back in the mix at 19.1% as everyone bets that he plays.
| Player | Pos | Team | DK Salary | DK Own% | FD Salary | FD Own% |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jahmyr Gibbs | RB | DET | $9,800 | 33.5% | $10,000 | 44.6% |
| Michael Wilson | WR | ARI | $6,200 | 33.1% | $6,400 | 41.4% |
| Trey McBride | TE | ARI | $6,700 | 31.3% | $7,200 | 34.8% |
| D'Andre Swift | RB | CHI | $6,200 | 30.8% | $6,500 | 39.3% |
| Braelon Allen | RB | NYJ | $5,400 | 27.1% | $5,900 | 25.3% |
| Amon-Ra St. Brown | WR | DET | $7,900 | 24.8% | $9,000 | 24.1% |
| Mike Washington Jr. | RB | LV | $4,200 | 22.2% | $4,900 | 18.3% |
| Chase Brown | RB | CIN | $6,900 | 22.1% | $8,000 | 18.9% |
| Justin Jefferson | WR | MIN | $7,300 | 19.1% | $8,000 | 20.6% |
| Jacoby Brissett | QB | ARI | $5,500 | 19.0% | $6,800 | 22.4% |
| Commanders DST | DST | WAS | $2,900 | 18.8% | $3,300 | 36.8% |
| Aaron Jones | RB | MIN | $6,500 | 15.9% | $6,200 | 32.9% |
That Arizona cluster isn't an accident. The Cardinals are 1-3 with Brissett throwing it everywhere, McBride has 46 targets and 33 catches through four games, Wilson has 25 catches for 258 yards, and Detroit's secondary has been shaky all season. Jets quarterback Geno Smith threw for 321 yards on it in Week 3.
Best NFL DFS Chalk Plays
- Jahmyr Gibbs (RB, DET) at ARI: highest total on the slate and Detroit laying 5.5. At $9,800 on DK and nearly 45% on FanDuel he's the most popular play on the board, and I'm not talking myself out of it.
- Trey McBride (TE, ARI) vs. DET: Brissett's go-to guy, 46 targets and 33 catches through four weeks, in the highest-total game on the board. The volume is there.
- Michael Wilson (WR, ARI) vs. DET and Jacoby Brissett (QB, ARI): Wilson leads Arizona's receivers with 25 catches for 258 yards, and Brissett has 818 yards and six touchdowns despite three picks against the Giants. A shootout stack against a shaky Lions secondary, with Marvin Harrison as the third piece if you want it.
- D'Andre Swift (RB, CHI) at GB: Kyle Monangai is out with turf toe, which leaves Swift in line for close to 20 touches behind a run-heavy Chicago offense. The knock is fumble risk, which already had his coach concerned.
- Braelon Allen (RB, NYJ) vs. CLE: Breece Hall is week-to-week and Allen played 32 of 34 snaps last week. I'll be honest, it didn't go well, 59 yards on 14 carries while the Jets ran only 32 plays total, and this is a 39.5 total with 90% rain in the forecast. The role is real, the offense around it isn't great.
- Amon-Ra St. Brown (WR, DET) at ARI: Detroit's top receiver in the 54.5-total game as a 5.5-point favorite, with Sam LaPorta (17.2% DK) the other piece of that passing game.
- Mike Washington Jr. (RB, LV) at NE: this is contingent chalk. At $4,200 and 22.2% on DK, he only works if Ashton Jeanty (ankle/foot) sits, and Jeanty didn't practice Friday. If Jeanty is active, this is the play that goes sideways, so check the inactives.
- Chase Brown (RB, CIN) at MIA: Miami is 0-4, scoring 11.5 points a game and ranks third in fantasy points allowed to running backs. The catch is that Cincinnati's run game has been awful, 10 yards on nine carries last week against Jacksonville, but Brown caught all 11 of his targets for 71 yards. The receiving work is what holds this floor up, especially if Chase or Higgins sits.
- Justin Jefferson (WR, MIN) at NO: questionable chalk at 19.1% DK and 20.6% FD, with ownership built on the assumption he plays. He says the plan is to play in his home state and was limited all week, but the final call comes Sunday morning.
- Aaron Jones (RB, MIN) at NO: 108.3 scrimmage yards a game since Jordan Mason went on IR, and Minnesota is 4-0 and a 1.5-point road favorite. The one wrinkle is Kyler Murray, who has been QB27 and QB28 the last two weeks, but Jones doesn't need him to be good.
- Commanders DST vs. NYG: Washington is a 3.5-point home favorite at $2,900, Jayden Daniels is expected back, and Giants left tackle Andrew Thomas did not practice Wednesday. Bengals DST is at just 7.5% on DK against that same 11.5-points-a-game Miami offense, which makes it the cheaper way into the same spot.
Best NFL DFS Low-Owned Plays
Every week there's a handful of guys with real salary and a real job that the field just isn't rostering. A couple of names you won't find here on purpose: Jeremiyah Love slid back into a committee with Tyler Allgeier last week and is managing an ankle, so his ownership is correct, and Jordan Addison is a pass if Jefferson plays.
| Player | Pos | Team | DK Salary | DK Own% | FD Own% |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Joe Burrow | QB | CIN | $6,900 | 2.0% | 4.5% |
| Kirk Cousins | QB | LV | $5,400 | 1.0% | 0.8% |
| Geno Smith | QB | NYJ | $5,000 | 2.7% | 1.9% |
| Jordan Love | QB | GB | $5,700 | 4.0% | 3.5% |
| Christian Watson | WR | GB | $6,400 | 4.8% | 9.1% |
| Tre Tucker | WR | LV | $4,800 | 3.2% | 1.7% |
| Romeo Doubs | WR | NE | $5,000 | 12.7% | 13.1% |
| Ja'Marr Chase | WR | CIN | $8,100 | 0.8% | 0.6% |
| Mike Gesicki | TE | CIN | $4,100 | 0.2% | 0.2% |
Burrow at 2% is the oddest number on the board. He faces an 0-4 Dolphins team and already had a big passing day against Jacksonville last week. The question is who catches it. Chase (0.8% DK) is still in the concussion protocol but practiced fully Friday, and if he's cleared he's the lowest-owned elite receiver on the slate. Higgins is questionable and also practiced fully Friday. If both sit, Gesicki is the next man up with a touchdown in three of four games and an 18.8% red zone target share, at 0.2% owned.
Cousins is the cheap one worth a look: the Raiders are 3-1, their offense runs through Bowers and Mayer, Tucker leads their receivers in catches, and New England's top corners are still banged up. Doubs is a good value, a little under chalk, with a 72% route share and two touchdowns last week while A.J. Brown is on IR and Mack Hollins deals with a calf strain. Geno Smith has been quietly excellent, 31-for-37 for 321 yards against Detroit, with Garrett Wilson carrying the offense while Hall and Mitchell are out. And Love and Watson are the Packers pairing nobody's touching: Green Bay's pass-heavy attack gives Love 38.5 attempts a game and Watson has 20 catches and four touchdowns.
Top NFL DFS Leverage Plays
| Higher-Owned (A) | Sal | Own% | Leverage Play (B) | Sal | Own% |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Michael Wilson (WR, DK) | $6,200 | 33.1% | Christian Watson | $6,400 | 4.8% |
| Sam LaPorta (TE, DK) | $4,900 | 17.2% | George Kittle | $5,200 | 10.0% |
| Trey McBride (TE, FD) | $7,200 | 34.8% | Brock Bowers | $7,800 | 16.9% |
| Commanders DST (DST, DK) | $2,900 | 18.8% | Texans DST | $3,400 | 8.2% |
| Michael Wilson (WR, FD) | $6,400 | 41.4% | Christian Watson | $7,000 | 9.1% |
Watson off Wilson is the best pivot on the board. He costs $200 more on DK but sits at 4.8% against Wilson's 33.1%, with a Bears secondary where Jaylon Johnson (83.3% completion rate allowed) and Tyrique Stevenson (143.7 passer rating allowed) have struggled. Three targets last week was a season low, so the volume isn't guaranteed. Bowers off McBride is a tight end swap on FanDuel into a Raiders-Patriots game where New England's secondary is hurting, at roughly half of McBride's ownership. Kittle off LaPorta is the thinnest gap on the list, about 60% of LaPorta's ownership for $300 more. And the Texans off the Commanders DST is a straight price play, Houston is a 7.5-point road favorite at Tennessee.
Best Contrarian NFL DFS Plays
Stack the stuff nobody's touching. That's how you actually separate in a tournament instead of hoping one punt hits.
- Bengals: Burrow with Chase if he clears the concussion protocol, or with Gesicki and Dohnte Meyers if Chase and Higgins are out. Your QB plus whichever pass catchers are left, in a game Cincinnati is favored by a touchdown.
- Raiders: Cousins with Tucker and Bowers, a QB and his pass catchers against a Patriots secondary that can't get its top corners on the field.
- Packers: Love with Watson, a correlated QB and WR stack at almost no ownership. This is a real risk spot, the Bears have 10 sacks over their last three games and Packers guards Aaron Banks and Jacob Monk are doubtful, but the upside is there if Love has time.
Best GPP Plays Based on Ownership
Anchor with a chalk play that's earned it, then build out with the low-owned and leverage names instead of fading the whole top of the board like it's all a trap.
- Chalk anchor: Gibbs or Aaron Jones. Both earn it on role and a game script that favors them.
- Leverage pivot: Watson off Michael Wilson, or Bowers off McBride on FanDuel.
- Low-owned game stack: Burrow with Gesicki or Chase in Miami, or Love with Watson in Green Bay, both with real upside and very little ownership.
- Fade: the Colts passing game. Daniel Jones, Josh Downs and Tyler Warren face a 98% rain chance and gusts near 21 mph in Pittsburgh with Alec Pierce on IR and Keenan Allen managing a groin injury. Jonathan Taylor (13.7% DK, 18.3% FD) is not part of the fade, since rain pushes Indianapolis toward the run.
- Value at the bottom: Mike Gesicki at $4,100, only if Chase or Higgins is ruled out, a tight end with a touchdown in three of four games and a thin receiver room in front of him.
Treat all of this as a projection, not a promise. News breaks fast, so check inactives one more time before you lock, especially Jefferson in New Orleans, Chase and Higgins in Cincinnati, and Jeanty in New England.
