After melting down in Game 6, the Flames are left feeling empty.

With their season on the line, the Flames built a 3-0 lead against Dallas, but ultimately lost 7-3. Dallas has advanced to the next round while Calgary was eliminated in the first round for the second straight year and the third time in four seasons (they didn't make the playoffs in 2018). “It’s tough. It’s an empty feeling,”said Flames forward Mikael Backlund. “You’re wondering what happened. Things just turned so quickly. We just couldn’t stop the bleeding, and it happened so quick. It’s hard right now.” The Flames are still a young team, they can come back next season and be serious contenders. But the question the Flames front office needs to address during the offseason is if they're better off staying course and putting their trust in this core or making some significant changes to try to address their disappointing playoff showings. Either option carries risks. You don't want to keep trying the same thing over and over again and fail, but over correcting can end up being worse than doing nothing at all. Aug 21 9:26 am (EST)
