NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today 10/19

San Jose Sharks vs. Toronto Maple Leafs: Monday, October 19th

Macklin Celebrini and the Sharks are up in the north tonight as they take on Auston Matthews and the Maple Leafs! This one is probably going to be the most popular DFS stack play for the evening considering both teams have forgotten how to play defense. While every game on the slate is 6.5 goals today this one seems more balanced in terms of each team likely to contribute. 

The Sharks have been dreadful at even strength this season allowing 19 even strength goals, which is the 3rd highest mark in the NHL among teams that have played just eight games. Their total expected goals against per 60 minutes is also 3.63 which is only better than the Flyers and Canucks. On the offensive side they struggled a bit for a stretch without Celebrini but he's back now and they've managed to score nine goals in their last three games. 

On the Maple Leafs side its another season of no defense and stacked forward groups. This group has allowed a near league high goals against number of 26 goals over nine games at even strength and their projected goalie in Anthony Stolarz has given up 10 goals in three starts.

All these numbers add up to a wager on the over tonight and even though its 6.5 goals that is the number to clear I don't see this matchup having an issue reaching seven or more goals.

Goalie of The Day: Mackenzie Blackwood, COL

Its a small slate tonight and all the totals are 6.5 goals so its a tough night to pick a goaltender but why not the back the biggest favorites on the slate in the Avalanche against the straight up 1-9 Flyers? The volume may be low but this is the safest bet for me today in the cage. 

Player of The Day: Auston Matthews, TOR

I thought about giving this mantle to MacKinnon once again and he is a great play make no mistake I just like the tempo and game flow for this Maple Leafs vs. Sharks matchup. Matthews has four goals in his last four games, let's bet on him staying hot tonight. 

Value Play of The Day: Alexis Lafreniere, NYR

The Rangers might not be a great team but they are undefeated at home tonight against a Ducks team that has struggled on defense at times this season. Laffy has been the Rangers best player on home ice with nine points and 16 shots in five games skating inside MSG. 5.3k is an amazing price here over on DK. 

Defenseman Play of the Day: Cale Makar, COL

MacKinnon didn't get the headline so let's give love to one of his teammates in Makar here. The Flyers are allowing the 5th most DFS points per game to blue liners this season and Makar has slate busting potential every single night. Seems like a no brainer for me!

Top Stack of the Day: Maple Leafs Forward Line 1

Once again, the Sharks defense is bad, their goalies are bad. Matthews, William Nylander and Jack Roslovic should skate around unimpeded in this matchup and four or more goals for the Leafs tonight seems very likely.
