Week 1 is finally here, and I'm not wasting a single word getting you to the good stuff. If you're hunting for the best NFL games to watch this weekend, building a DFS lineup, or just trying to figure out which NFL games this week actually deserve your couch time, the DraftKings board already told us most of what we need to know. Big spread? Somebody's about to get run off the field. Tight line? Strap in. Total pushing past 48 or 50? Every fantasy manager I know already has three tabs open on that game.

Best NFL Games to Watch This Week

Five games separate themselves from the pack as the best NFL games to watch this week, and no, it's not just the number on the spread. Storylines, stakes, primetime real estate, all of it matters, and this crop has all three in bunches.

Dallas Cowboys @ New York Giants (Sunday Night Football): Dallas is only laying 3 on the road with a 48.5 total, so throw out any thought of a defensive slugfest. Dak Prescott gets to work with CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, and I don't care who you are, that's a nightmare matchup for any secondary in the league. New York answers with Jaxson Dart slinging it to Malik Nabers, and there's real drama in watching a young quarterback try to hang with a division rival under the brightest lights the league offers. Toss in decades of bad blood between these two franchises, and this one picks itself for the marquee window.

Denver Broncos @ Kansas City Chiefs (Monday Night Football): Kansas City's only favored by 2.5 at home, and a 43.5 total tells you the number crunchers expect this thing to go down to the wire. Bo Nix has quietly become one of the tougher outs in the AFC, and now he's got Courtland Sutton plus a shiny new toy in Jaylen Waddle to throw to. On the other sideline, Mahomes and Kelce are still Mahomes and Kelce, the kind of primetime legends who've built entire careers out of spots exactly like this one, but Kenneth Walker gives that Chiefs backfield a jolt Denver hasn't had to deal with before.

Green Bay Packers @ Minnesota Vikings: A pick'em-style 1.5-point line makes this the closest number on the whole board, and honestly, it should be. Jordan Love's got Christian Watson and Jayden Reed to work with, and Josh Jacobs still does the dirty work between the tackles. Minnesota counters with Justin Jefferson, who I'd argue is still the best route runner alive, and Jordan Addison holding down the middle of the field, even while Kyler Murray's still finding his footing in a brand new offense. Division games this even don't come around often.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Cincinnati Bengals: A 50.5 total, the highest of the early Sunday slate, and frankly it should be higher. Baker Mayfield's spreading it around to Emeka Egbuka and Chris Godwin while Bucky Irving chips away underneath, and Cincinnati counters with Joe Burrow feeding Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, two of the scariest receivers anybody gets to throw to on a given Sunday. Circle it. This one's a track meet.

Washington Commanders @ Philadelphia Eagles: Philadelphia opens at home as a 5.5-point favorite, but a 44.5 total says don't expect a defensive grind. Jayden Daniels has Terry McLaurin and Stefon Diggs to lean on, and he's already proven he doesn't rattle even against a stacked roster like this one. Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley, meanwhile, are exactly why the Eagles are favored, and exactly why nobody's expecting them to take their foot off the gas just because it's Week 1.

 

NFL Game of the Week

My NFL Game of the Week is Cowboys at Giants on Sunday Night Football, and it isn't particularly close. Dallas is just a 3-point road favorite with a 48.5 total, which in oddsmaker language means "both of these offenses are about to move the ball." Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and George Pickens are up against a Giants defense that's hoping its pass rush can bail it out, while Jaxson Dart gets his first real primetime test trying to get Malik Nabers going against a bitter division rival. Rivalry, national audience, young-gun-versus-proven-vet storyline. Give me this one every time.

My strong runner-up: Broncos at Chiefs on Monday Night Football. A 2.5-point line in an AFC West grudge match is about as close to a coin flip as Vegas ever hands out. Denver's offense looks like a different animal with Jaylen Waddle now lined up next to Courtland Sutton, and the fact that Kansas City's only a slight home favorite tells you the league respects what Bo Nix has built. Of course, the Chiefs still have Mahomes and Kelce doing exactly what they've always done, and now Kenneth Walker gives that offense a wrinkle it simply didn't have a year ago.

Best Division Matchups

Four of this week's NFL games double as division grudge matches, and nothing sets an early-season tone quite like beating up on the team you'll see twice more before the year's out.

Dallas Cowboys @ New York Giants (NFC East): A 3-point road number with a 48.5 total makes this the most evenly matched division game on the slate. Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and George Pickens want to jump on New York early and never look back, while the Giants counter by leaning on their pass rush to speed up whatever Jaxson Dart's trying to build on the other sideline.

Washington Commanders @ Philadelphia Eagles (NFC East): Philadelphia's a 5.5-point home favorite, but that plus-180 price on Washington says this could get spicy late. Let Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley control the clock all they want, Jayden Daniels and Terry McLaurin are the pressure valve that keeps Washington in it.

Green Bay Packers @ Minnesota Vikings (NFC North): A 1.5-point spread is the tightest line on the entire board, period, full stop. Jordan Love and Josh Jacobs against Justin Jefferson and a Kyler Murray-led Vikings offense is about as fair a fight as the NFC North's going to give us all season.

Denver Broncos @ Kansas City Chiefs (AFC West): Kansas City's favored by just 2.5 at home, keeping this squarely in coin-flip land for Monday night. Bo Nix and a Broncos offense now running Jaylen Waddle alongside Courtland Sutton hand Kansas City's defense a genuinely new headache to solve, even with Mahomes and Kelce lurking on the other side.

 

Potential NFL Upsets This Week

Want value on the underdog side? These are the NFL games this week where I think the numbers say an upset is squarely in play, and I'm not afraid to say it.

New York Jets (+1.5, +105 ML) @ Tennessee Titans (-1.5, -125 ML): This is the closest moneyline gap anywhere on the board, meaning Vegas genuinely has no clue who wins this thing. Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall give Geno Smith more than enough to steal it on the road, and if Cam Ward and the Titans offense so much as hiccups behind Tony Pollard and Wan'Dale Robinson, the Jets are very much live.

Buffalo Bills (-1.5, -120 ML) @ Houston Texans (+1.5, +100 ML): A home underdog getting plus money against a 1.5-point spread is about as textbook a live dog as you'll ever find. C.J. Stroud and Nico Collins have plenty of firepower to hang with Josh Allen and James Cook, so long as Houston's defense can just take Buffalo down a notch.

Green Bay Packers (+1.5, +102 ML) @ Minnesota Vikings (-1.5, -122 ML): The spread and the moneyline are both this tight for a reason, folks. Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison give Minnesota a puncher's chance even while Kyler Murray gets his feet under him, but Jordan Love and Green Bay's run game are more than capable of walking out of Minnesota with the win.

Washington Commanders (+5.5, +180 ML) @ Philadelphia Eagles (-5.5, -218 ML): A 5.5-point home favorite is never a lock in this league, and that plus-180 price is real value if Jayden Daniels, Terry McLaurin, and Stefon Diggs can hang with Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley for a full four quarters.

Atlanta Falcons (+3.5, +154 ML) @ Pittsburgh Steelers (-3.5, -185 ML): A field goal and a half with a total stuck in the low 40s leaves plenty of room for something weird to go down. Bijan Robinson and Drake London do the heavy lifting for an Atlanta offense running through Cooper Rush at quarterback, and Pittsburgh answers with Aaron Rodgers spreading it to DK Metcalf while Jaylen Warren handles the dirty work on the ground.

Best Games for Fantasy Football

If you're setting lineups, these are the best NFL games this week to chase for fantasy production. Vegas already told us which offenses are getting turned loose. Listen to them.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Cincinnati Bengals (50.5 total): The highest total of the week, no contest, makes this the premier fantasy watch. Baker Mayfield, Emeka Egbuka, Chris Godwin, and Bucky Irving all have legit paths to a big day for Tampa Bay, while Joe Burrow, Ja'Marr Chase, and Tee Higgins are about as safe a stack as exists anywhere in football.

New Orleans Saints @ Detroit Lions (50.5 total): Detroit's favored by a touchdown at home, but that shared 50.5 total says New Orleans' skill players still have juice, especially if this turns into the kind of negative game script that forces the ball downfield in a hurry. Chris Olave, Travis Etienne, and Alvin Kamara give Tyler Shough options to sling catch-up passes to, while Jared Goff, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and Jahmyr Gibbs lead a Lions attack built to control tempo and pile up yards no matter the score.

Arizona Cardinals @ Los Angeles Chargers (47.5 total): A lopsided spread doesn't scare this total off one bit. Marvin Harrison and Trey McBride give Jacoby Brissett two legitimate weapons even while Arizona's likely playing from behind most of the afternoon, and Justin Herbert's got Ladd McConkey through the air plus Omarion Hampton doing damage on the ground for Los Angeles.

Baltimore Ravens @ Indianapolis Colts (47.5 total): A near-touchdown favorite with a total pushing 48 is usually great news for skill players on both sides of the ball. Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry remain one of the most explosive quarterback-running back tandems the league has, and Daniel Jones leaning on Jonathan Taylor and Alec Pierce ought to keep Indianapolis plenty competitive.

Washington Commanders @ Philadelphia Eagles (44.5 total): The total's more modest here, sure, but don't sleep on it. Jayden Daniels, Terry McLaurin, and Stefon Diggs might have to lean on the passing game hard just to stay within shouting distance of Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley.

 

Best Games for DFS

For DFS, you want a high total paired with a spread tight enough to keep both offenses on the field deep into the fourth quarter. That combo is where the real, usable value hides on any given slate.

Green Bay Packers @ Minnesota Vikings: A 46.5 total next to a 1.5-point spread is exactly the kind of split-game environment DFS sharks love to build around. Jordan Love, Josh Jacobs, and Christian Watson anchor the Green Bay side, while Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and Kyler Murray headline the Minnesota stack.

New York Jets @ Tennessee Titans: The total's modest at 38.5, but that razor-thin spread means nobody has a real read on how this game script plays out, and that uncertainty is exactly where leverage lives on whichever team's pass catchers get overlooked. Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall lead the way for New York, while Tony Pollard, Carnell Tate, and Wan'Dale Robinson do the same for Cam Ward and Tennessee.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Cincinnati Bengals: The week's highest total, 50.5, makes both offenses viable stacking options, and there's enough cushion on that 3.5-point spread to build around either side. Baker Mayfield into Emeka Egbuka or Chris Godwin, Joe Burrow into Ja'Marr Chase or Tee Higgins, take your pick.

Buffalo Bills @ Houston Texans: A near-even moneyline despite the 1.5-point line, plus a 44.5 total, sets up real value on Houston's home underdog pieces. C.J. Stroud, Nico Collins, and David Montgomery are the value angle opposite Josh Allen, James Cook, and DJ Moore.

Denver Broncos @ Kansas City Chiefs: A 43.5 total in primetime with only a 2.5-point spread makes this Monday night finale a rock-solid same-game-parlay and stacking candidate to close out your slate. Bo Nix, Courtland Sutton, and Jaylen Waddle carry the Denver side, and Kansas City answers with the usual Mahomes-to-Kelce magic plus Kenneth Walker mixed into the run game.
