💎 PITCHING COACH
Top Tier
Paul Skenes (PIT) | vs ARI
The Diamondbacks have actually been a subpar offense against right-handed pitching this season ranking 23rd in OPS and 24th in wOBA and wRC+. They also strike out 23% of the time against righties. Paul Skenes is one of the best pitchers in baseball and is the fifth-highest rostered pitcher on today's slate.
Will Warren (NYY) | vs TEX
The Rangers offense is above league average against righties at a 105 wRC+, but they do strike out over 22% of the time and Warren's been an elite pitcher this year. He's missing a ton of bats and has the most strikeouts looking in the league since the start of last year. He's been over 30 DKP in two of three and 20+ DKP in three straight.
Freddy Peralta (NYM) | vs COL
I find it interesting because it's so cold in Colorado today and that typically bodes well for starting pitching, despite the thick air that helps carry the ball in Coors Field. On the year, Colorado is the 21st ranked offense in wRC+ against right-handed pitching while striking out 24.3% of the time.
Value Plays
Eury Perez (MIA) | vs BAL
This is a fantastic spot for Eury Perez and it's a fantastic strikeout spot at that. We haven't truly seen the Perez upside yet this season and this is one of the spots he could flash double-digit strikeout upside in. Baltimore has a 24% K-rate against righties and that's fifth in the league. Perez has been dominant pitching at home in Miami his entire career.
Jeffrey Springs (ATH) | vs PHI
This is a contrarian play as the Philly offense is getting a LOT of ownership and let's talk about that. Philly's offense has been horrendous against left-handed pitching this year ranking 29th in OPS and wOBA and 28th in wRC+. Springs has been really good since last year pitching away from Sutter Health.
Colin Rea (CHC) | vs CIN
It's cold and there are winds blowing in, which means it's great pitching weather. Rea has flashed 19 FP upside in three of his last four starts and gets a Reds offense ranking 25th in OPS, wOBA, and wRC+ against right-handed pitching this year.
💎 HITTING COACH
Elite Bats
Juan Soto (OF, NYM) | vs COL
Lefties have a .333 ISO, .261 xISO, .512 wOBA, and .435 xwOBA against Michael Lorenzen this year. Juan Soto himself has a .200 ISO, .298 xISO, .462 wOBA, and .457 xwOBA against righties. It's cold, but it's Coors Field.
Byron Buxton (OF, MIN) | vs WAS
Miles Mikolas has trouble getting both righties and lefties out and we have Byron Buxton on an absolute heater right about now. Buxton has a robust .396 ISO and 10 HR vs. RHP this year and Mikolas has allowed a .268 ISO to righties.
James Wood & CJ Abrams (OF/SS, WAS) | vs MIN
The Nationals don't rate out well against right-handed pitching this year, but James Wood and CJ Abrams do! Those guys are great. Wood has a .284 ISO and .352 xISO and .379 wOBA and .418 xwOBA while Abrams has a .317 ISO and .256 xISO and .430 wOBA and .406 xwOBA. He faces Bailey Ober has allowed a .206 ISO and .217 xISO to lefites.
Cody Bellinger, (OF, NYY) | vs TEX
Cody Bellinger is scorching hot. He's one of the hottest hitters on the planet. He has 10 extra-base hits and 12 RBI over his last seven games played and faces Nathan Eovaldi, a guy who's been bad against left-handed bats this season.
Liam Hicks (C, MIA) | vs BAL
Elevated flyball rate, bad peripheral numbers, and lefties have crushed Brandon Young. Lefties have a .275 ISO, .301 xISO, .367 wOBA, and .373 xwOBA and yet, lefties have a .240 BABIP against Young, which suggests he's actually been lucky. Hicks is raking, posting a .314 ISO and .445 wOBA against righties.
Value Bats (Salary Savers)
- Kyle Stowers (OF, MIA): We haven't seen the best out of Kyle Stowers yet, but he had a .302 ISO and .410 wOBA against right-handers last year.
- Carson Benge (OF, NYM): Coors, cheap & lots of power potential in this spot.
- Spencer Torkelson (1B, DET): Battle of reverse splits. Tork has a robust .233 ISO vs. RHP while Sonny Gray has allowed a .259 ISO to righties.
- Trevor Larnach (OF, MIN): Attack Miles Mikolas at all costs. Larnach hasn't flashed the power he has in years past just yet, but has a .418 wOBA vs. RHP.
🏗️ THE STACKING BLUEPRINT
Primary Stack: New York Mets
Targets: Juan Soto, Carson Benge, Bo Bichette, Mark Vientos, Brett Baty, MJ Melendez
Opponent: Colorado Rockies | NYM 5.6 implied
The Mets are the clubhouse leaders in implied run total at 5.6 as they're in Coors Field today. Michael Lorenzen takes the mound and he struggles with lefties specifically. Lefties have a .333 ISO, .261 xISO, .512 wOBA, and .435 wOBA. There's definitely power upside here.
Primary Stack: Minnesota Twins
Targets: Byron Buxton, Trevor Larnach, Ryan Jeffers, Kody Clemens, Brooks Lee
Opponent: Washington Nationals | MIN 5.3 implied
Whether it's righties (.268 ISO, .384 wOBA, 12.9% K) or lefties (.237 ISO, .427 wOBA, 16.9% K) they crush Miles Mikolas. The Twins offense has a really solid implied total and this is one of the best game environments on the board. They have five guys in their lineup with a .160 ISO or better vs. RHP.
Contrarian Stack: Miami Marlins
Targets: Liam Hicks, Kyle Stowers, Xavier Edwards, Jakob Marsee, Owen Caissie, Joe Mack
Opponent: Baltimore Orioles | MIA 4.5 implied
Including last years numbers, Brandon Young has not been able to get major league hitters out, especially from the left side. Lefties have a .308/.377/.545 slash and righties are hitting .272 with a .471 SLG% and .336 wOBA. The Marlins are running six lefties out there tonight including four of their top five (Edwards, Hicks, Stowers, Marsee).
Contrarian Stack: New York Yankees
Targets: Aaron Judge, Trent Grisham, Jazz Chisholm, Jasson Dominguez, Cody Bellinger, Ben Rice
Opponent: Texas Rangers | NYY 5.3 implied
Home runs. That's the name of the game. The Yankees hit more than anyone else and they face Nathan Eovaldi who has struggled against left-handed bats. Lefties have a .260 ISO, .242 xISO, .395, and .377 xwOBA against Eovaldi this year.
Contrarian Stack: Boston Red Sox
Targets: Willson Contreras, Wilyer Abreu, Jarren Duran, Trevor Story, Masataka Yoshida
Opponent: Texas Rangers | BOS 4.4 implied
Jack Flaherty is, uhhh, not very good? Is that OK to say? He really struggles against lefites and the .170 ISO and .355 wOBA against righties isn't too good either. Jarren Duran, Wilyer Abreu, and Willson Contreras are all rolling offensively, too.
📈 THE LEVERAGE REPORT (GAME THEORY)
The Chalk (Popular) | The Pivot (Low Owned) | The Winning Logic |
|---|---|---|
| Wheeler (highly owned) | Skenes (lower-owned) | Skenes arguably has the better matchup and is much less owned. |
| Rea (highly owned) | Perez (low-owned) | Perez's strikeout upside is as high as anyone on the slate. |
| PHI Chalk Stack (highly owned) | MIA Stack (lower-owned) | Philly hasn't hit left-handed pitching all year and Miami gets a RHP that can't get outs. |
| NYM Chalk Stack (highly ownership) | MIN Stack (lower-owned) | It's going to be 30 degrees in Coors which is not ideal weather to hit in. MIN has nearly the same implied run total as NYM. |
