NFL Training Camp Updates, Live News, Injuries - Patrick Mahomes Has a New Favorite Target: 7/31
We are back again with our NFL training camp report, and now we are officially less than one week away from some LIVE NFL action. Sure, it is just the Hall of Fame game; the preseason for the preseason, but we’ll take it! I mean, who wouldn’t be excited to see a little Carson Beck or Kedon Slovis vs. Kenny Pickett or Haynes King! The dream QB duel if you ask me! Jokes aside, NFL Training Camp Live News is continuing to pile up for our NFL training camp report, meaning the NFL season is RIGHT around the corner.
🤔 NFL Training Camp Updates For Today, 7/31
Yesterday, we saw Baker Mayfield make headlines, calling out the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for a holdup in contract negotiations, along with some unfortunate injury news involving rookie receiver Chris Brazzell, who is already done for the season (the Carolina Panthers CANNOT seem to catch a break).
Chris Olave signed a new deal with the New Orleans Saints, putting an end to his “hold-in.” Plus, we could have some more signings soon, as veteran DE Jadaveon Clowney visited with the Browns and fellow DE Jared Verse is urging the team to add him, but that is just the tip of the iceberg for our NFL training camp report.
Below, you will find the biggest headlines from today’s NFL training camp report, NFL Training Camp Live News, along with fantasy football training camp winners and losers. We will also keep you up to date with any major injuries or transactions that happened throughout the day. Without further ado, let’s dive in!
🏈 NFL Training Camp Live News - Patrick Mahomes’ New Favorite Target is WHO???
Rookie WR Cyrus Allen Flashes at Chiefs Camp
When looking at NFL Training Camp Live News from the Kansas City Chiefs, I would have expected highlights featuring Kenneth Walker, Rashee Rice, or maybe even old man Travis Kelce, but the star of Chiefs camp thus far has been fifth-round rookie wide receiver Cyrus Allen. Thus far, he has been a nonstop highlight reel, making plays like this one:
The former Cincinnati Bearcat has reportedly been Patrick Mahomes’ favorite target throughout NFL training camp, routinely finding his way into the first-team offense. It is worth noting, though, that Rashee Rice has not worked team drills to this point. Could the Kansas City Chiefs have found the next Puka Nacua in this fantasy football training camp star? Both fifth-round picks that fell under the radar. Certainly worth a dynasty stash if he is still available on waivers.
Deebo Samuel Rejoins the San Francisco 49ers
While this headline technically dropped last night, well after our NFL training camp report or any practices, free agent wide receiver Deebo Samuel officially rejoined the San Francisco 49ers on a one-year deal. Samuel is likely going to fall back into his "Z" receiver role he had from 2019-2024, which helped him produce 5935 yards from scrimmage over that six-year span.
This signing seems to be reactionary to the fact that WR Ricky Pearsall is STILL dealing with his PCL injury from last season, on top of newly signed WR Christian Kirk dealing with an injury as well. Samuel will look to build off of the 802 total yards he put up with the Washington Commanders last season.
📈Fantasy Football Winners Of The Day
Caleb Williams Flashes
It is almost bittersweet seeing a Chicago Bear as our first fantasy football training camp winner. On one side of things, my Chicago Bears finally have a quarterback. On the other hand, he will almost be impossible to draft to my fantasy football teams, with his ADP as the QB7. If he keeps up the performances we have been seeing with NFL Training Camp Live News, that number could rise all the way into the top five.
Williams and the offense have been the stars of the show thus far into NFL training camp. He has been running the offense at a high level, getting all of Rome Odunze, Colston Loveland, and Luther Burden involved. Even Kalif Raymond has flashed, making Williams an ideal fantasy football target.
Quinshon Judkins in a Three-Down Role?
Coming into the offseason, it was assumed that the Browns would rotate their two young backs, with Quinshon Judkins taking early down and goal-line work and Dylan Sampson taking on third downs and the receiving work. That being said, Judkins could be taking on an even larger role than anticipated, with Browns RB coach Deuce Staley stating that he believes Judkins could be a three-down back.
Currently being drafted as the RB21, Qunshon Judkins could return immense value. He enters the season with a greater role in the offense, a reliance on the run game with shaky quarterback play, and a completely rebuilt offensive line. Judkins could be in for a huge year as our second fantasy football training camp winner of the day.
📉 Fantasy Football Losers Of The Day
Who is the Odd Man Out in Kansas City?
As we already highlighted, Cyrus Allen’s emergence in Kansas City could be legit, making him a potential fantasy football training camp winner for deeper leagues, but if he is taking valuable targets, that means they have to come from somewhere.
With Travis Kelce another year older and nearing retirement, along with Rashee Rice not working in team drills yet, both of these players could be losing targets once it comes to real game action. Other receivers like Tyquan Thornton and Xavier Worthy have been inconsistent thus far into their careers, so almost all of the Chiefs' pass catchers are on fantasy football training camp loser watch with a fifth-round rookie out working, out producing, and looking like the most reliable option thus far.
Competition for De'Zhaun Stribling
Another rookie receiver, De'Zhaun Stribling, was in for extra work with the San Francisco 49ers first team with both Christian Kirk and Ricky Pearsall missing time (plus whatever Brandon Aiyuk is up to). Dynasty managers were rejoicing for just about 24 hours. Now, Deebo Samuel is returning, who has deep roots in Kyle Shanahan’s offense. More competition and likely fewer first-team snaps make De’Zhaun Stribling a fantasy football training camp loser.
🩼 NFL Training Camp Injury Updates - Tucker Kraft Returns
When looking into an NFL training camp report, it is also important to stay up to date with all the injuries around the league and NFL Training Camp Live News.
Tucker Kraft Activated from the PUP
Huge news for the Green Bay Packers: superstar tight end Tucker Kraft was just activated off the PUP and returned to NFL training camp today. Kraft missed half of the season with a torn ACL, but his rehab has reportedly gone great, and he feels good to go.
Last season, Tucker Kraft was on his way to a monster breakout season, with 489 yards and six touchdowns through eight games. With the Packers moving on from multiple pass catchers like Romeo Doubs and Dontayvion Wicks, Kraft could be in for a monster season.
Tua Tagovailoa Eases Back into Practice
One of the biggest quarterback battles of our NFL training camp report is taking place in Atlanta between Michael Penix and Tua Tagovailoa. Unfortunately, we have not gotten to see much of a competition, as Penix is working his way back from an ACL tear and Tagovailoa tweaked his back last week, forcing him to miss Wednesday’s practice.
Today, Tua made progress toward his return, as he participated in individual drills. He is still unsure, though, when he’ll make his full return to practice.
Other Notable Injury Updates
- Lions DT Alim McNeill left practice early with a neck injury.
- Colts rookie LB CJ Allen was activated from the PUP list.
- Chiefs LB Ashton Gillotte left practice early with a hamstring injury.
- Former Saints OL Andrus Peat announced his retirement.
- 49ers DT Alfred Collins was activated from the PUP list.
