NBA Best Bets & Player Props January 8: Coby White Leads Bulls to a Win
Yesterday ended on a two out of three success rate, or Meat Loaf, and that ain’t that bad. We start this week at a little over twelve positive units, and there is a full week of NBA action. There are six games today, and two teams with back-to-back games playing each other. The Phoenix Suns at Los Angeles Clippers have zero prop bets at the moment, but it is a nationally televised game, and there could be better betting angles in live betting. So really there are five games to choose from, but still three great betting angles to attack the bookies with. In one match there are particularly a few good angles, and it is the Utah Jazz at Milwaukee Bucks with a 8:00 PM ET tipoff. There will be a prop from each team mentioned, one over and one under. The Fantasy Alarm NBA Best Bet of the Night is a same game parlay on the rematch from Friday, The Chicago Bulls at Charlotte Hornets with a 7:00 PM ET tipoff to begin the games tonight.
BET OF THE NIGHT:
SAME GAME PARLAY: CHICAGO BULLS MONEYLINE & COBY WHITE OVER 16.5 POINTS +100 MGM
Coby White has been playing marvelous this season, and has been a successful bet on this column more than once. The return of Zach Lavine and Nikola Vucevic was supposed to dampen Coby White’s production, but he played more minutes than both, he scored more than Z. Lavine, and he had more rebounds than N. Vucevic. His point line has dipped to 18.5 for some reason, although he scored twenty-two points against this exact team on Friday. N. Vucevic and Z. Lavine are listed as probable, and perhaps their involvement goes up, but the Hornets are allowing the sixth most points per game in the Association with 120.1. There must be something in the sportsbooks simulations that is causing his point production to dip down, although it seems a bit off. However in accounting for unaccountable variables this line has been teased down two points and combined with a moneyline to come in at even odds. The Charlotte Hornets have lost nine of their last ten games, including to the Bulls most recently. The Bulls have their starting roster in place, and should win this game with ease. Parlays can be difficult but a teased down parlay with the moneyline increases are odds on either at stand alone value.
PROP BETS:
BROOK LOPEZ UNDER 5.5 REBOUNDS -135 DK
Brook Lopez makes a return to Fantasy Alarm Best Bets, and it is his usual under line on rebounds. B. Lopez did have a stretch in late December where he covered this prop in four of five games, but has yet to cover this line in four games this month. He is playing over thirty minutes per game in January, but the offensive game plan for the Bucks is to spread the floor, and allow Giannis to work the interior, while Damian Lilliard sits around the arch. The Bucks have one of the most remarkable turnarounds in points per game to opposing teams. They are allowing 119.5 on the season, and an average of 125.0 in their last three games. B. Lopez is being more marginalized in this system despite playing several minutes. The Utah Jazz are playing well and with Lauri Markkanen back have a tall front court that allows the third fewest rebounds to opposing centers. B. Lopez's rebounding line has been set at 4.5 for every game this month, and with it being moved up to 5.5, we bet the unit on the under it has not failed us this season.
LAURI MARKKANEN OVER 22.5 POINTS -110 DK
Lauri Markkanen was an all star last year, and won the Most Improved Player of the Year award. He was injured from the end of November to half way through December but is back in All-Star form. He is averaging 23.6 points and 8.4 rebounds per game and coming off a double-double against the Philadelphia 76ers, which they won. The Jazz have quietly won seven of their last ten games and L. Markkanen’s play is a big reason why. They continue their road tour against the Milwuakee Bucks who as mentioned give up the seventh most points per game in the Association, with 119.5. The sportsbooks are expecting a dip in his point production, and L. Markkanen’s line is not correct. The Bucks are simply not playing good enough defense to stop a hot scorer. The former Arizona Wildcat should have his way against the Bucks who lost to the Rockets despite Giannis Antetokounmpo scoring forty-five points and grabbing seventeen rebounds. A line that doesn’t need to be moved, and returns almost a full unit, trust L. Markkanen to stay hot tonight.
