No Rob Gronkowski and likely no Jordan Reed this week. Damn, that’s a swift kick in the nuts to an otherwise thin position. Throw in the fact that Cam Newton is struggling and who the hell knows which Russell Wilson is going to show up to the game, making Greg Olsen and Jimmy Graham less surefire TE1’s. This position went from decently good, to a borderline dumpster fire. Gotta love the tight end position, right? Oh well, take a look at some of the guys on this list—who are playing—to help construct your seasonal lineups.
Here are the top 5—ahem, seven, but one is hurt and the other played last night—tight ends for Week 13 of the NFL season.
Rob Gronkowski vs. LA
WILL NOT PLAY DUE TO BACK INJURY.
Jimmy Graham vs. CAR
The Panthers have allowed 73 yards and two scores over the past two weeks to opposing tight ends, which places Graham in a nice fantasy situation to produce. Russell Wilson has been hit-or-miss, but given Carolina’s struggling pass defense, Wilson should bounce back nicely in Week 13. That will directly benefit Graham this week.
Greg Olsen @ SEA
Opposing tight ends have received 37 targets over the past four weeks against this Seattle defense and Olsen’s role in the offense puts him in line for an effective fantasy outing in Week 13. Olsen hasn’t been great over his last three games, averaging just 4.3 receptions for 39 yards, largely in part to Cam Newton playing some really bad football. Olsen should bounce back this week and you should trust him as a TE1.
Travis Kelce @ ATL
Kelce has at least seven receptions and 101 yards in each of his last two games, but he’s found the end zone just once since scoring against the Colts in Week 8. He gets a Week 13 matchup with a generous Atlanta defense that has allowed the fifth-most fantasy points per game to the position this season.
Jordan Reed @ ARI
In his last four games, he’s caught nine or more passes with at least 95 receiving yards and a touchdown on two separate occasions. He’s currently day-to-day with a shoulder injury, but as long as he is out there this weekend, you’ll be starting him in your lineup. If he plays, he’s a TE1.
Kyle Rudolph vs. DAL
Played Thursday.
Tyler Eifert vs. PHI
Eifert is the top option in the team’s passing attack and he’ll look to make a living in the middle of the field. Philly has been pretty good against tight ends this season, but Eifert’s prominence in the passing attack and red zone success make him a TE1 on a weekly basis.
