We’re heading into the fourth week of the fantasy basketball season, and there is opportunity everywhere considering how many major injuries have occurred throughout the association. Multiple players around the league have capitalized on expanded roles, such as Aday Mara, Jared McCain, and Brayden Burries. Let’s look into who the top fantasy basketball waiver wire picks are this week.
Fantasy Basketball Waiver Wire Week 4
Aday Mara, Oklahoma City Thunder
(44% rostered on Y!)
It’s hard to ignore the impact Aday Mara has had thus far, and the role should continue to be awesome with how many injuries the Thunder have suffered through. While Chet Holmgren, Jalen Williams, and Cason Wallace are out, Mara continues to top 20 minutes and is a nightly double-double threat. He’s been in and out of the starting lineup and is averaging nearly two blocks per game, on top of his ability to score around the rim and grab a bunch of rebounds.
Aaron Wiggins, Atlanta Hawks
(40% rostered on Y!)
It hasn’t mattered if Jalen Johnson is in or out; Aaron Wiggins’ role has been great off of the Hawks bench. Wiggins has poured in 15-plus points and four-plus rebounds in three straight games and has been a mid-20s minutes player with the Hawks. He’s averaging over 25 FP/game in Yahoo! Fantasy leagues. He’s a legit nine-category roster that’s still 60% available.
Jared McCain, Oklahoma City Thunder
38% rostered on Y!)
He’s been great since the start of the year, and as we mentioned earlier with Aday Mara, his role is going to be great for the entire season considering the abundance of injuries they’ve suffered. McCain had a big two-game stretch, putting up 19 and 21 points and topping 30 FP in each. He’s been a nine-category contributor this week, and he has a legit opportunity to be the Thunder’s third-leading scorer for the entire season.
Nolan Traore, Brooklyn Nets
(37% rostered on Y!)
While understanding Egor Demin will return from injury at some point, and Mikel Brown will also at some point get extended, it’ll be incredibly hard to take minutes away from Nolan Traore. Traore’s playing mid-20s minutes with 30-minute upside and has been tremendous across the board. Traore has poured in 16-plus points in four straight games and 15-plus in six of seven while contributing everywhere else he possibly could. He’s had eight steals in his last two games and is up to 1.6 SPG on the season.
Brayden Burries, Milwaukee Bucks
26% rostered on Y!)
The Bucks recently moved Brayden Burries into their starting lineup over Ryan Rollins, and he’s been a very productive fantasy asset, especially in his previous game, putting up a 21-11-6 game across 38 minutes. As a starter, Burries is averaging 13 PPG, 3.3 APG, and 8.3 RPG, and there’s no reason to think they'll make a change after taking him in the first round of this year’s draft.
Kingston Flemings, Atlanta Hawks
(23% rostered on Y!)
Another rookie being moved into the starting lineup that’s been quite productive in that role. He’s played 23-plus minutes in three starts and played 27 in his latest game. Flemings, who was selected in the first round, will start for the foreseeable future, because it was suggested by former starter CJ McCollum. Flemings has primarily been contributing in points and assists categories.
Jaxson Hayes, Utah Jazz
(18% rostered on Y!)
It’s a pretty boring roster, but Jaxson Hayes is going to continue to start for the next couple of weeks while Jusuf Nurkic remains out, as well as Jaren Jackson Hayes is a solid source of rebounds and blocks, and that’s where the primary source of fantasy points will come from.
Max Strus, Los Angeles Clippers
(14% rostered on Y!)
Two games into the Max Strus era in Los Angeles, and he’s been incredibly productive. The 23 minutes he’s played in each game will only go up from here, considering he’s recovering from a foot injury. There is no denying that a 10 PPG, 4.5 RPG, 5.5 APG, and 1.0 SPG player in just 23 minutes is incredibly valuable, especially when that role expands towards 30, which will presumably happen. The Clippers are getting healthier, but are still without Brandon Ingram for the time being.
