Last week I mentioned I was at the DFS Players Conference in New York City. This week I thought I’d give a real brief review of what I learned. It’s important to keep in mind that while I take my gameplay seriously, I’m not doing it for a living and am not all that concerned about my return on investment – at least not to the point my focus leans away from writing. To be honest, I’m looking at how to be more efficient with my research so that I can develop a plan that meshes with my work week and also allows me to build a solid bankroll. Don’t get me wrong, I’m ahead. But if you look at it in terms of time invested and money won, I probably should have just applied at the local convenient store and ran the register.

1. My player evaluation skills are fine for both baseball and football. Where I lack is…

2. Bankroll management. I need to track my record on the different games on the different sites and design a plan to maximize my skills. Once I have a handle on this, I need to be better at…

3. Game selection. Presently, I pay no heed to the rake or overlay. I just find an open game and enter a lineup. Which segues into…

4. I need to play more head-to-head contests as presently, my focus is on 50/50s and double-ups. Along those lines, I need to be smart about when I pick up games (and who I pick up) as well as tactical about the H2H games I initiate.

5. Perhaps the single most important lesson was to put my best cash game lineup into tournaments. I rarely do this and it’s a mistake. The idea isn’t that the lineup will take down a tourney, but if I truly am adept at designing strong cash lineups, they should finish above the money line and cash enough in tourneys to add to my bankroll and help my ROI.

On a personal note, much of what I allude to above are skills that are underappreciated or simply ignored by those naïve to the nuances of DFS. There’s a whole lot of misinformed people spreading misinformation out there, a lot of which is on social media. Once the public is educated in this regard, hopefully some of the garbage being spewed will subside. OK, I’ve already said more than I intended on this, it’s time to reveal my favorite cash plays for Week 11. For what it’s worth (I’m about to jinx myself), this is looking my favorite week of the season so far to find great plays, especially on DraftKings.
