Here is the Week 2 RB coach with my recommendations first and some relevant data you should be keeping an eye on when doing your research and making lineup decisions.
High End Options
DeAngelo Williams – He was 2nd at RB position in 2015 in fantasy points per game and kept it going in Week 1. The Pittsburgh running backs are always going to productive based on the system they run. Williams had over 200+ total yards with 2 TD’s in just over 6 quarters vs Cincinnati last season and the Bengals struggled to stop Forte last week who had 155 total yards. Williams should be in a good spot once again this week.
David Johnson – The Cardinals should start to realize that they will need Johnson to carry the load to win games with the inconsistent play of Carson Palmer. Johnson had 132 total yards and a TD in Week 1. Regardless of price, he is always in consideration each week. Tampa Bay has a solid run defense but they can be exposed by RB’s out of the backfield catching passes. The Bucs surrendered 9 catches for 115 yards last week vs. Atlanta.
Mid-Level Options
Carlos Hyde – San Francisco had the running game going strong in the pre-season averaging 184.2 per game on 5.7 yards per carry. No team will play at a faster pace that the 49ers with Chip Kelly now in charge as evidenced by his days in Philadelphia. Hyde didn’t find a ton of running room last week but did come up with 2 TD’s. It is all about the volume of plays with the 49ers. The Panthers allowed 129 total yards and 2 TD to CJ Anderson in Week 1.
C.J. Anderson – The Broncos take on a Colts team that couldn’t stop the Lions all game long last week in anything they did. Anderson had 129 total yards and 2 TD in Week 1 vs the Panthers. The running game is vital to the success of the Broncos to win football games with Trevor Siemian at QB. Anderson is locked in at 20+ touches.
Ryan Mathews - We saw in Week 1 a solid game from Mathews with 77 rushing yards and a TD. He did not get any receptions with the how the game flow worked out but still expect him to get more involved in the passing game. The Bears were one of two teams to allow a 100-yard rusher in Week 1.
Rashad Jennings - No one is going to feel excited about Jennings but he gets to face the New Orleans defense. He had 19 touches last week for 78 total yards. The Saints defense is awful. It finished last vs the run last season and started off 2016 by giving up 151 rushing yards and 3 TD’s to the Raiders RB’s. It appears the Jennings will see almost all of the snaps with no threat of splitting time.
Low Cost Options
Spencer Ware - He should have been the highest owned RB last week but for some reason people choose to go elsewhere and they paid for it. Kansas City was 6th in yards per carry last year and 3rd in rushing yard per game in 2015. The way to attack the Texan is on the ground to keep their pass rush off-balance. Ware should be productive once again in both rushing and receiving after 199 total yards last week.
Jeremy Langford – The Bears seem committed to Langford as a three down back which is hard to find in the NFL these days. He had 18 touches last week and would expect a minimum of 15 each week going forward. Coach John Fox is a fan of running the ball but there was some concern about a time share was going to happen but things look good for Langford. The Eagles gave up 128 total yards to RB’s last week and while the line is not great in Chicago they seem to do a decent better job run blocking.
