Welcome back to the MLB Best Bets and Prop Bets for today, Friday, April 12. With the short slate and rain in the forecast all over the place, it made sense to take Thursday off, even though we had a nice day with Wednesday’s MLB picks

We saw two postponements and some absolutely horrendous pitching. Sure, you could have tried to attack some hitting props, but who out there had Jose Quintana dominating the Braves on their Bingo card? Outside of New York Mets fans, I’m sure very few.

MLB Best Bets & Prop Bets For Today: Friday, April 12

It’s okay to take a day off, especially if you don’t like a slate or feel like the outcomes will be dramatically affected by the weather. We still have some weather issues today – Cleveland and Detroit are the most notable – so we’ll likely avoid those games with our MLB picks unless we find some crazy value in a game or prop bet.

Something tells me though, with such a huge slate and starting so late, that we’ll have plenty of other options. Let’s take a look at my top MLB predictions for today April 12.

  • Wednesday’s Record: 5-3
  • Season Record: 31-33
  • Bankroll: -5.44 units

Braves vs. Marlins Prediction Today, 4/12

I’m starting today’s MLB picks in Miami. While the overall numbers for the Braves against left handed pitching have not been great – yesterday’s loss to Quintana, for example – to me, it feels like a statistic waiting to be corrected. We know Ozzie Albies routinely crushes left handed pitching and that top end of the lineup is going to come out aggressively after last night’s loss.

I expect them to jump all over Trevor Rogers who, at one time looked strong, but has since struggled and has become very hittable. His command has been off, so look for the Braves to take advantage once he falls behind in the count.

The Braves are throwing Max Fried and while I don’t have much confidence in the Marlins bats, Fried still needs to work some of the early-season kinks out. We’ll stay with the Brave bats and earn our money that way.

Rangers vs. Astros Prediction Today, 4/12

Similar to the Braves vs. Marlins game, I do not have a whole lot of faith in the pitching matchup for this game. J.P. France takes the hill for the Astros, and not only does he pitch to contact, but he also doesn’t induce a lot of ground ball outs. Facing a ton of lefties in this Rangers lineup could spell disaster for him early.

On the other side, we’ve got Dane Dunning taking the mound for the Rangers. He’s flashed some quality starts before in the past, but holding down this Astros lineup could be difficult. The lefty bats of Kyle Tucker and Yordan Alvarez are likely to shine, while guys like Jose Altuve and Jeremy Pena have shown success against him in the past.

Leaning towards strong offensive outputs seems to be the direction we should take regarding MLB predictions for Texas vs. Houston.

Cardinals vs. Diamondbacks Prediction Today, 4/12

You already know which team rounds out my MLB best bets today! I just can’t/won’t quit these Diamondbacks hitters. Lefty Steven Matz is a gas can waiting to explode and Arizona boasts a .361 wOBA against southpaws this season.

The right-handed bats should do wonders against Matz who has a .347 wOBA against by righty hitters and a .324 mark against. He may have looked good in his last start, but that was the Marlins. The DBacks won’t be so forgiving. Arizona is also throwing Barndon Pfaadt who started off really well against the Braves but eventually crumbled to their lineup in the fourth and fifth innings.

That won’t happen against the Cardinals who continue to struggle at the plate. They’ve posted just a .288 wOBA with a near-25% strikeout rate against them. If Pfaady can start off this contest as well as he did against Atlanta, he should find plenty of success.
