Best MLB Stolen Base Picks Today:
Locking in the best stolen base predictions means finding the absolute perfect storm of a high-on-base runner and a weak battery. Here are our top two MLB stolen base picks today for Sunday, July 12:
Favorite Bets:
Fernando Tatis, San Diego Padres (+291)
Things are lining up really well for Tatis to swipe his 24th base today as he takes on Kevin Gausman and the Toronto Blue Jays. Gausman has allowed 11 stolen bases this season, second-most on the slate and while I’m not a huge batter vs pitcher (BvP) data guy, Tatis is actually batting .400 against Gausman over 20 at-bats, so you know he can hit him. Tatis has a 72-percent success rate on the bases and a fantastic sprint-speed, but what I love the most is Alejandro Kirk behind the plate with his 13-percent caught-stealing rate. Let’s get it!
Nico Hoerner, Chicago Cubs (+373)
While PCA has the best odds to steal a base, we’re going with Hoerner for our pick today. Abbott, who has allowed a slate-high 18 stolen bases this season, has a tougher time with righties and Hoerner doesn’t whiff, as evidenced by his 8.7-percent strikeout rate. He’s also got a .338 wOBA against southpaws, so you couple that up with and 82.4-percent success rate on the bases, a near-elite sprint-speed and the fact that Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson has a dreadful 18-percent caught-stealing rate on 55 attempts, we’ve got a winner here.
