2026 Fantasy Baseball Player Profile
Tyler Stephenson’s 2025 season was a frustrating "lost year" defined by two separate stints on the injured list. After suffering a left oblique strain in late March that delayed his debut until May, Stephenson later missed nearly a month in August and September due to a fractured left thumb sustained while catching Hunter Greene. Despite these setbacks, he displayed flashes of his high-ceiling power, tallying 13 home runs and 50 RBI in just 88 games while slashing .231/.316/.421. While his batting average took a significant hit due to a career-high 33.9% strikeout rate, his clutch hitting remained intact, notably recording his first career four-hit game and several game-tying/go-ahead homers in the ninth inning or later.
The 2026 season is a "walk year" for the 29-year-old backstop, who is set to reach free agency this winter. The relationship between Stephenson and the Reds’ front office was a major storyline early this spring after the two sides failed to agree on a 2026 salary. In early February, Stephenson won his arbitration hearing, securing a $6.8 million salary (beating the team’s $6.55 million offer). Now fully healthy, he has arrived in Goodyear for spring training as the clear-cut primary catcher, working closely with the Reds’ young staff, including rookie Rhett Lowder.
For fantasy managers, Stephenson is a "post-hype" value pick with an ADP around 260.
