How many times teams attempt to steal a base on a particular catcher is a strong indicator of who we expect to see doing the most running today. Jake McCarthy, Colorado Rockies (+319)

Lefty on lefty? Really? Absolutely! McCarthy has a .325 AVG and .377 OBP against southpaws in 2026, and today’s opponent, Kade Anderson, has struggled a bit with lefties in his young career, to the tune of a .400 AVG and .457 wOBA. Looking at McCarthy today isn’t as much of an indictment on Anderson, but more so a bet on McCarthy’s 99th percentile sprint speed, and Cal Raleigh’s struggles in the run game. The Seattle backstop has a 5th percentile pop time, 13% caught-stealing rate this year, and a 6% caught-stealing rate in September.

Caleb Durbin, Boston Red Sox (+391)

Durbin has two steals (3 att) over the last week, and he has an excellent .476 OBP over his last 11 games (43 plate appearances). He doesn’t boast elite sprint speed (63rd percentile), but he’s opportunistic on the base paths, and with Boston having a southpaw on the mound, I’d expect Nick Fortes to catch for the Rays on Sunday. Fortes has a 19% caught-stealing rate this year, but he’s yet to catch a runner (0-for-4) with Griffin Jax as his battery mate. Fortes has caught just two of his last 14 base stealers, good for a 14% caught-stealing rate.
