2023 Player Outlook
2023 Recap: Irvin wasn’t slated to pitch as much in the majors as he did in 2023. He was forced into the every-fifth-day role thanks to injuries, a failed come back, and other starters not being able to be counted on as much. Irvin put up a 4.61 ERA (5.23 xERA, 5.30 FIP, 5.09 SIERA), 1.42 WHIP, 18.7-percent K-rate, and 10.2-percent BB-rate over 121 IP. There’s a lot of crooked numbers in that line.
2024 Outlook: Irvin is likely to be in the rotation again for Washington, thanks to a lack of arms. It’s hard to see him improving much off of last year’s numbers as he’s never really been a dominant arm in the minors either. He’s more of a pitch to contact type which doesn’t always help the ratios or outcomes.
