Miro Heiskanen is averaging 24:52 of ice time this season, 1:06 more than last year.

Heiskanen has been a stud on the blueline and has been around long enough that most pundits forget that he is only 21. “One thing about Miro, some guys that are going to play a lot of minutes, you can see they’re struggling,” Stars coach Rick Bowness said. “When Miro’s on, he can play 30 minutes. So those are the nights we kind of push the bar a little bit because he’s not tired, he’s in to the game, he’s controlling the game. So get out of his way and let him play. Other nights, you can tell he’s off a little bit, then you’ve got to cut back on it. Most nights, he’s the best player on the ice. Skating like he can, and the minutes won’t wear him down as much as a guy who doesn’t skate as well as he does. Natural skaters can play more minutes, it’s not as taxing on their body. A guy that struggles to skate and it’s hard work for them, can’t play those minutes. Miro can handle the minutes.” Heiskanen is a top-defenseman and has four goals and 18 points in 33 games this season. Mar 31 11:20 am (EST)
