Braden Holtby is expected to test the UFA waters, per Capitals GM Brian MacLellan.
Even if Holtby does become an unrestricted free agent though, he might still end up re-signing with Washington. "I would expect him to go to free agency," MacLellan said. "The goalie market is probably a little unusually deep this year. I talked to his agent last week briefly about where he's at and the kind of opportunities he's looking for. I would assume he goes to free agency and we'll keep in contact with him throughout the free agency period to see if he's getting what he wants." Holtby is coming off a five-year, $30.5 million contract. He's been one of the league top goaltenders at times and he's still fairly young at 30 (he'll celebrate his 31st birthday on Wednesday), but the 2019-20 campaign was a rough one for him. He had a 25-14-6 record, 3.11 GAA, and .897 save percentage in 48 contests. Sep 15 4:00 pm (EST)
