Welcome to our NFL Week 8 Picks Straight Up! It's terrifying to think about, but we are almost halfway through the NFL season ALREADY! Teams we expected to be Super Bowl contenders in the offseason are fighting to get wins (Like the one-win Ravens), meanwhile, teams like the Seahawks and Colts are showing that they are not a flash-in-the-pan. This season has been the most exciting one in a while, and we still have plenty of games to go!

So without further ado, it is time to bring you our expert NFL Week 8 Picks Straight Up. Below, you will find my picks, some highlighted matchups, and the schedules and spreads for every game this week.

 

 

 

NFL Week 8 Picks Straight Up & Odds For All 13 Games

With Week 8 here, we have some great matchups on paper with a smaller 13-game slate. In the following section, you will find my predictions, with the teams I anticipate coming away with a victory highlighted in bold. Odds are courtesy of BetMGM:

 

 

 

NFL Week 8 Picks Straight Up: Dallas Cowboys ML (+150 at DraftKings Sportsbook)

How 'bout them Cowboys!? No, really, how about them Cowboys? When they chose Brian Schottenheimer as their new head coach during the offseason, I thought it was the most uninspired hire possible. I was out on the Cowboys. When they traded away Micah Parsons a few months later, I thought they would be bottom dwellers. The defensive talent scared me, Javonte Williams leading the run game scared me, and the coaching staff, above all, scared me. I was wrong. Now, the Cowboys' offense is must-see TV every single week. For four weeks straight, the Cowboys have put up 27 or more points on offense, and most of that was done without superstar CeeDee Lamb. 

That being said, the defense has been suspect at best. Luckily for the Cowboys, they could be getting some gamechangers off of IR this week, including rookie corner Shavon Revel and linebacker DeMarvion Overshown. Overshown has been a flash player for the Cowboys, but has been held back by injuries, and Revel could plug a serious hole in a porous secondary.

With all my questions about the Cowboys' defense, why would I be picking them to win outright as underdogs? Well, I trust their offense to produce, even against a top defense like Denver's, and I would expect them to come out on top in a shootout. Yes, just last week we saw Bo Nix and the Broncos come out on top in a miraculous comeback against the Giants, but in that game, Bo Nix had to throw the ball FIFTY TIMES and only complete half of his passes. That is NOT how this Broncos team wants to win. And if not for a few mistakes from the Giants' defense and rookie growing pains from Jaxson Dart, they would've lost that game. Dak Prescott will not make those same mistakes as this team gets back to full health. Plus, everyone loves a storyline. This is the Javonte Williams revenge game! I like the Cowboys to outpace and outscore the inconsistent Broncos offense and come away with a win.

 

 

 

NFL Week 8 Picks Straight Up: San Francisco 49ers ML (+100 at FanDuel Sportsbook)

Why are we still sleeping on this 49ers team? Even after being absolutely battered and bludgeoned with brutal injuries, the Niners are STILL winning games. Even without Nick Bosa and Fred Warner, the 49ers were able to hold the explosive Falcons offense to 10 points in their last outing. They are now facing a Texans team that could be without its top two wide receivers, Nico Collins and Christian Kirk, a lackluster run game, and a putrid offensive line. The Niners' defense should be licking their chops in anticipation.

On the offensive side of the ball, the 49ers are getting healthier, but face a tough defense that is top 10 both against the run and the pass. With George Kittle held catchless last week, I think he will have the opportunity to make his impact more, as Mac Jones will be looking for a quick, reliable outlet to get the ball over the middle. He, Christian McCaffrey, and the merry band of misfits they have as their receiving group right now should be able to do enough to get the offensive side of the ball going. Despite the injuries, I trust the San Francisco 49ers far more than the Houston Texans at this point in the season. The Texans have yet to prove anything, and while this would be a statement win, I do not see them pulling it off. I do not understand why the Niners are underdogs, but I will happily take them at +100.
