NFL Week 7 Picks Straight Up: San Francisco 49ers ML (-168 at FanDuel Sportsbook)

I know the San Francisco 49ers are beaten and battered already, less than halfway through the NFL season, but they are still one of, if not the best team in the league. Let’s not overthink this one; Brock Purdy is playing at an MVP level with or without his top targets, the defense has held opposing offenses to 17 points or less in non-divisional matchups, and Kyle Shanahan and his staff are coaching out of their minds. At a price tag under -200, I’d take the 49ers over just about anyone in the league at this point.

Meanwhile, I think people have been fooled by the Atlanta Falcons. They have looked great in primetime, with dominant victories over the Packers and Saints, and the offense has finally caught up with the surprisingly impressive defense now that Michael Penix has found his footing at quarterback. That being said, this is a team that is still beyond a year away. Penix has looked good in clean pockets, but has struggled more than just about any other quarterback when under pressure. I know the defense of the 49ers is not entirely healthy, but I do know that defensive coordinator Raheem Morris is going to be licking his chops at the opportunity of this revenge game against a significantly less talented team.

No matter what the score was at the end of Falcons vs. Bears, it was far less competitive than it appeared. The Bears allowed a late surge from the Falcons after they pulled their starters on defense and gave the Atlanta offense short field after their third-string running back, Roschon Johnson, fumbled. The 49ers not only should win this game, but I would be comfortable taking them in any survivor pools that I am still alive in.

NFL Week 7 Picks Straight Up: Kansas City Chiefs ML (+124 at DraftKings Sportsbook)

Yet another undefeated team that we are backing, but this time, they are underdogs. Kenneth Walker revenge game narratives aside, I think the Chiefs are simply the better team in this matchup. The Chiefs boast a top-10 defense while fielding the number one offense in the entire NFL in terms of yards per game. Yes, they are facing off against the number one defense in the same stat, but the Seahawks have not seen a run game like the Chiefs’ at this point.

What I am most concerned about is the Seahawks offense. Their run game has clearly taken a step back without Kenneth Walker, Zach Charbonnet, or even their first-round rookie, Jadarian Price. Sam Darnold has also struggled more without his former playcaller, Klint Kubiak. Right now, the offense feels like it is Jaxon Smith-Njigba or bust, and with more teams recognizing this and seeing Darnold struggle against disguised coverages or post-snap rotations, the offense as a whole has taken a step back. Now, facing off against one of the brightest defensive minds of this generation, Steve Spagnuolo, I am expecting Darnold to struggle to stay on track once again. I know the 12s make things hard on any team heading into Lumen Field, but I can’t turn down this Chiefs team at plus money.
