NFL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets for Week 5 Sunday, 10/5
The theme for our best bets last weekend was touchdown scorers, and that’s been the case for the past two slates, helping us hit three of the last four top picks. Therefore, we’re certainly going to be checking for those spots regarding our NFL best bets for Week 5.
Of course, we have fewer guys in the mix, including the likes of Bijan Robinson and Josh Jacobs, who were the ones to hit our 2-leg parlay last weekend! Either way, it’s an extremely interesting slate, as it’s one that doesn’t feature a single divisional rivalry outside of Thursday and Sunday Night Football, which is as rare as it gets.
Although that means not as much prior history to draw from for your NFL picks, that’s why we’re here to do the research for you so that you have the best NFL predictions for Week 5.
NFL Week 5 Predictions: Sunday, October 5th
Before we get into our overall NFL best bets for Week 5, how about some overall expectations? We know that tons of fans love their underdogs, and our favorite one of the week is the Broncos vs. Eagles game.
That’s right - fading the defending Super Bowl champs! They may be 4-0, but they’ve continued to let teams hang around, and when it comes to the play in the trenches, Denver has a clear advantage. Even if it’s not an outright upset after the short week from playing on MNF, Bo Nix and company can still cover the number.
Speaking of line play, last weekend, we took and hit our first sack prop of the season with Danielle Hunter of the Texans. If you’re interested in another such pick, we’d suggest considering Josh Hines-Allen in the Chiefs vs. Jaguars MNF game and Jonathan Greenard in the Vikings vs. Browns London game.
Speaking of NFL picks for Monday Night Football, for a nice plus-money longshot, this could be the week we finally see Travis Hunter score his first career TD! Ok with those NFL predictions under your belt, let’s finally fully dive into our NFL best bets for Week 5.
Texans vs. Ravens Best Bet: Derrick Henry 60+ Rushing Yards & Anytime TD (-102 at Rebet)
One game that we didn’t mention above is the one in Baltimore, as it’s far from the game of the week. Lamar Jackson can still make any matchup more exciting, but, well, his hamstring injury has completely derailed the Ravens' season.
Prior to Week 5, the look-ahead line for this game had Baltimore as 9.5-point favorites. That came down to around 3.5 points, and as the week has gone on, it’s clear that Lamar Jackson is not expected to play - they are now 2.5-point underdogs! That line flip alone speaks to just how valuable the two-time MVP is.
Along with plenty of other injuries, more and more responsibility falls on the shoulders of Derrick Henry. Thankfully for Ravens fans, they are massive. Similarly, the former Tennessee Titan has had massive success against the Houston Texans, a former division rival.
We saw the former 2,000-yard back rush for over 200 yards and four straight games against the Texans! The fact that his anytime TD prop by itself is only at -155 is nearly unbelievable, as we’ve seen lines close to that for TWO touchdowns. Speaking of which, we love that pick for your NFL best bets for Week 5 as well.
Just about every way in which you can target this beast of a back has value in our eyes. While there’s no going wrong, we’ve got to pick one for you, so we’ll start our NFL best bets for Week 5 with Derrick Henry to have 60+ rushing yards and an anytime TD (-102 at Rebet).
Buccaneers vs. Seahawks Best Bet: Sam Darnold Over 29.5 Pass Attempts (-115 at Rebet)
Don't look now, but the matchup in Seattle may very well end up being an NFC Championship Game preview. That may shock some fans out there, and while the Philadelphia Eagles and a few others will have something to say about that, the Bucs vs. Seahawks game is one that we have our eyes on for our NFL best bets for Week 5.
There has been plenty of love given to Baker Mayfield with how well he's been playing this season, and rightfully so, but what about Sam Darnold? The former #3 overall draft pick led the Minnesota Vikings to a remarkable 14-3 record last season, yet was not wanted back. Well, he's proving that he can win elsewhere.
The Seahawks will be looking to match the San Francisco 49ers at 4-1 in the NFC West, and we expect them to lean on Darnold's arm early and often. Tampa's run defense is absolutely elite with Vita Vea clogging up the middle, so even with their RB duo of Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet being healthy, we still expect them to lean on the passing game.
After all, having target-monster Jaxon Smith-Njigba helps with that. When he didn't have such weapons in Carolina with the Panthers, he had 32, 42 and 37 pass attempts against the Bucs. A different team certainly means that it's not a 1-to-1 comparison, but we still expect plenty of dropbacks this Sunday.
Therefore, we're going to add to our NFL best bets for Week 5 with Sam Darnold over 29.5 pass attempts (-115 at Rebet).
