MLB Weather Today, 9/2
Brewers vs Cubs - There are 5-10 MPH winds blowing out, which matters a lot in the most wind sensitive park in the league. Bump to bats.
Blue Jays vs Guardians - Hot, humid, and winds blowing out. Bump to bats.
MLB DFS Lineup Picks: Starting Pitchers
MLB DFS Top Pitchers
Jacob Misiorowski (MIL)
Analysis: I think this is interesting because there are 5-10 MPH winds blowing out in Chicago and that matters a lot. It only matters if the opposition can hit and lift the ball against Misiorowski. The Cubs offense is elite and Mis is SO expensive, so there's always a case to fade a chalky pitcher significantly higher priced than everyone else.
Cam Schlittler (NYY)
Analysis: Schlittler is significantly higher owned than every other pitcher on the slate because he draws a dream matchup against the Angels. Since the All-Star break, the Angels have a league-worst 80 wRC+ and have the second-highest K-rate at 26.1% against right-handed pitching.
Dylan Cease (TOR) (FanDuel)
Analysis: This isn't the best spot in the world but the Guardians are not an offense anyone's afraid of. They have a 99 wRC+ since the break vs. RHP but have only struck out at an 18.8% clip, which is a LOW number. Cease still has a 6.5 strikeout O/U today and is the second-best strikeout artist on the slate.
MLB DFS Value Pitchers
Eury Perez (MIA)
Analysis: Control has truly been the only thing that has gotten in Eury Perez's way lately. He's walked 3+ batters in three straight games. KC has been a plus offense since the All-Star break putting up a 103 wRC+ while only striking out 18.3% of the time vs. RHP.
Reid Detmers (LAA)
Analysis: It's incredibly hard to ignore Reid Detmers' price point today on DK. It's not bad on FanDuel, but holy cow is it so so cheap on DK and I'm not sure why. Detmers has only made one start under 8.1K on DK since June 16th. He's allowed 1 ER or fewer in four straight starts and has multiple 40 FP outings this season because of his ability to generate strikeouts. Since the ASB, the Yankees have a 24.5% K-rate, which is the 9th-highest mark in baseball.
Noah Cameron (KC)
Analysis: Only two teams since the All-Star break have had less success against left-handed pitching than the Miami Marlins. The Marlins' 72 wRC+ is putrid as well is their .611 OPS, .090 ISO, and .278 wOBA. They strike out around 22.4% of the time too and Noah Cameron continues to pitch extremely well. He's a fantastic value.
Dean Kremer (MIN)
Analysis: Over the last 30 days, the Tigers offense has fallen off a cliff. They rank 29th with a 83 wRC+ and are 29th in OPS and 26th in ISO. Kremer's primary issue has been the home run this year and the Tigers are having home run hitting issues. I think he could get pretty deep into this outing.
Top Options For Strikeouts
K-prop lines and value ratings are incorporated below for DFS and prop context. These are the arms building the highest strikeout ceilings on the 9-game slate.
Our model identifies these arms as the highest-ceiling plays for Alt-K lines today:
Jacob Misiorowski: 38.9% K% (13.2 K/9)
Dylan Cease: 36.1% K% (13 K/9)
Cam Schlittler: 30.9% K% (11.1 K/9)
Reid Detmers: 27.8% K% (10.1 K/9)
Eury Perez: 26.8% K% (9.8 K/9)
Best Odds For A Win
The following MLB DFS picks offer a combination of favorable win odds, sustainable ERA and xFIP metrics, and soft opponent matchups. Each carries K-prop lines worth noting alongside their DFS value at reduced ownership relative to the top tier.
- Yoshinobu Yamamoto -108
- Cam Schlittler +106
- Jacob Misiorowski +114
MLB DFS Lineup Picks: Stacks & Hitters
MLB DFS Top Hitters
Shohei Ohtani (1B/OF, LAD) & Mookie Betts (SS, LAD)
Analysis: Between the majors and minors, Brycen Mautz has struggled with righties (.771 OPS) but hasn't allowed a lot to lefties. Ohtani could change that big time and Betts is a very appealing price point. Betts has good expected numbers vs. LHP posting a .185 xISO and .351 xwOBA.
Yordan Alvarez (OF, HOU) & Jeremy Pena (SS, HOU)
Analysis: In 24 innings since the All-Star break, Davis Martin has pitched to an 8.03 ERA and is coming off the IL to make this start. Pena's slugged against righties this year posting a .216 ISO against them and while that's really good, he's only trailing Yordan Alvarez by 100 points (.312 ISO vs. RHP).
Jackson Chourio (OF, MIL) & William Contreras (C, MIL)
Analysis: Righties are batting .289 with a .349 wOBA against David Peterson this year and there are winds blowing out too. Chourio has posted a .198 ISO and .371 wOBA against LHP this year and Contreras is hitting .450 with a 1.164 OPS over his last 10 games.
Luke Keaschall (OF, MIN)
Analysis: Keaschall's on fire right now posting three straight multi-hit efforts with four over his last five games. He's hit .341 over his last 10 games overall with two homers and two steals and has been slotted in as the Twins leadoff hitter lately too. Drew Anderson has been reverse splits this year allowing a .208 ISO and .352 wOBA vs. RHH.
Jonathan Aranda (1B, TB) (FanDuel)
Analysis: Leaning on small samples is difficult, but that's what we have with Justin Hagenman. Last year, before injury, Hagenman had struggles with left-handed hitters. It was just a 184 pitch sample, but lefties have a .245 ISO, .268 xISO, .381 wOBA, and .366 xwOBA at the major league level vs. him. Aranda's been an elite hitter vs. RHP this year and it looks like it could be even better when you factor in the .174 ISO but .209 xISO.
MLB DFS Value Hitters
Will Smith (C, LAD) & Teoscar Hernandez (OF, LAD)
Analysis: Will Smith is back and we know how historically good he is against lefties and meanwhile, you can say the same thing for Teoscar Hernandez. Two plus hitters under 4K against a lefty and in thier home ballpark.
Andrew Vaughn (1B/3B, MIL) & Cooper Pratt (SS, MIL)
Analysis: Righties are batting .289 with a .349 wOBA against David Peterson this year and there are winds blowing out too. Vaughn keeps on demolishing left-handed pitching (.213 ISO, .435 wOBA) and Pratt is really cheap in a wind game as well.
Paul Goldschmidt (1B, NYY)
Analysis: Death, taxes, and Paul Goldschmidt smashing left-handed pitchers. Those are three guarantees in life.
Kaelen Culpepper (SS, MIN)
Analysis: We mentioned it above, but Drew Anderson's been more susceptible to righty bats this year. Culpepper is raking at the major league level and he's looked good against right-handed pitching posting .175 ISO, .205 xISO, .395 wOBA, and .379 xwOBA.
Bryce Eldridge (1B/OF, SF) & Drew Gilbert (SF, OF) (FanDuel)
Analysis: Jared Jones definitely can miss bats but he pitches to a lot of contact in the air and does give up home runs to boot. Lefties this year have a .223 ISO and .333 wOBA. If Gilbert's back in the lineup he should lead off and he a .169 ISO and .347 wOBA vs. RHP. Eldridge also hits tanks vs. RHP notching a .181 ISO, .208 xISO, .345 wOBA, and .347 xwOBA.
