Signed to a massive 7-year deal in the offseason, Cease arrives to headline the rotation. His 2025 in San Diego was volatile (4.55 ERA), but his underlying stuff remained electric, as evidenced by his 215 strikeouts. The Blue Jays are banking on a change of scenery and their pitching development staff to harness his stuff and lower his walk rate.
2026 Outlook: Cease is a high-risk, high-reward ace. He leads the AL in strikeout potential (11.5 K/9) but carries WHIP risk. If he clicks, he is a Cy Young contender; if not, he is a frustrating but valuable source of strikeouts.
