💎 PITCHING COACH

Top Tier

Shohei Ohtani (LAD) | vs SF

Ohtani has been truly dominant on the mound this year, with a 0.97 ERA through six starts. His 29% strikeout rate and 6.2% walk rate are both outstanding, and his groundball rate is up significantly this season. Tonight's matchup against San Francisco only adds to the appeal, as they have been a below-average offense against right-handed pitching (89 wRC+).

Jacob Misiorowski (MIL) | vs SD

The Miz made headlines in his last start when he struck out 11 Yankees and registered nine pitches above 103 mph. He has quickly emerged as one of the top pitchers in all of baseball, leading all starters in strikeout rate and swinging-strike rate. San Diego has been a below-average offense against right-handed pitching (95 wRC+).

Dylan Cease (TOR) | vs TB

Cease is coming off a dominant outing of his own, where he struck out 10 Angels. His 34.6% strikeout rate trails only Misiorowski among qualified starting pitchers. He draws the toughest matchup among the top three starters of the slate. Tampa Bay owns a 105 wRC+ against righties, and they have only struck out 18.8% of the time.

Value Plays

Framber Valdez (DET) | vs NYM

Valdez has an egregiously low price today after he was blown up for ten runs in his last start. Overall, he has not pitched poorly this season. The strikeouts are down a bit, but the groundballs are still at an elite level. He draws a matchup against a Mets team that has been among the worst in baseball against left-handed pitching (75 wRC+).

Max Meyer (MIA) | vs MIN

Meyer has been excellent for the Marlins this season, with a 2.79 ERA through eight starts. He's missing more bats than ever, and he has done a much better job keeping the ball in the park than in previous seasons. Tonight's matchup is also a plus for him, as he draws an average Twins offense that strikes out at the 7th-highest rate against righties.

Christian Scott (NYM) | vs DET

Scott has made a successful return after Tommy John surgery sidelined him for all of last season. The control is usually the last thing to return, and that has shown this season (14.6% walk rate), but he is also missing bats at an elite level (31.3% strikeout rate). Detroit has been above-average against righties this season, but they are also missing two key pieces of their regular lineup with Carpenter and Torres on the IL.

💎 HITTING COACH

Elite Bats

Shea Langeliers (C, ATH) vs STL

The best hitting environment of the slate is in Sutter Health Park with temperatures in the 80s. Lefties have actually crushed Liberatore this season, but he had traditional splits last year. Langeliers has been the Athletics best hitter against lefties, with a .293 ISO and .457 wOBA on the season. He's also been one of the bets hitters in baseball, with a ridiculous 183 wRC+ thus far.

JJ Wetherholt (2B, STL) vs ATH

The Cardinals are on the other side of the Sutter Health game, and their lefties in particular are in a great spot. Ginn has been smashed by lefties for a .203 ISO this season, and it was even worse at .290 last year. Wetherholt has been awesome in his rookie season, posting a .213 ISO and .371 wOBA against righties.

Alec Burleson (1B, STL) vs ATH

Let's add another Cardinals lefty to the core plays. Burleson has been outstanding this season, posting a .220 ISO and .388 wOBA against righties. He should hit in a prime run production spot in the order and has a decent shot to get three cracks at Ginn.

Yordan Alvarez (OF, HOU) vs SEA

Alvarez has been one of the best hitters in all of baseball, posting an absurd 180 wRC+. He gets a matchup against Bryce Miller, who will be making his season debut this evening. Miller has flashed talent in the past, but he has always struggled to limit lefty power.

Value Bats (Salary Savers)

  • Josh Naylor (1B, SEA): It's been a slow start to the season for Naylor, but lefties have smashed McCullers for a .233 ISO this season.
  • Xavier Edwards (2B, MIA): Edwards is too cheap for his leadoff role and matchup. He gets a great spot vs. Woods Richardson and a terrible Minnesota bullpen.
  • Brendan Donovan (3B, SEA): Should hit leadoff and gets a great matchup against McCullers, who has struggled to limit lefties.
  • Henry Bolte (OF, ATH): Making his MLB debut. He has 80-grade speed and has already posted 12 homers and 17 steals in 177 Triple-A plate appearances this season.

The Pivot (Low Owned)

The Winning Logic

Misiorowski (highly owned)Ohtani (lower-owned)Ohtani seems to be flying under the radar while the field understandably races to play the Miz. Ohtani has been dominant in his own right this season and has just as much upside.
MIA Chalk Stack CHC Stack (lower-owned)The Cubs have scored just two runs in their last three games, but overall, they have been one of the best offenses in baseball this season.
SEA Chalk Stack HOU Stack (lower-owned)Miller posted a 5.68 ERA and allowed 1.69 HR/9 last season. The Astros are going to be overlooked when facing him in his season debut tonight.
