Rays vs Rockies - There's enough rain in the forecast that could cause a delay, but it's nothing that we're overly concerned about.
MLB DFS Lineup Picks: Starting Pitchers
MLB DFS Top Pitchers
Cam Schlittler (NYY)
Analysis: Schlittler pairs elite personal metrics as he's taking an 11 K/9 with an opponent staggering through a 71 wRC+ slump against righties. Lock him in as a priority SP1 in cash lineups and a high-leverage core piece in GPP builds. He'll be the top rostered pitcher by a mile today.
Matthew Boyd (CHC)
Analysis: Over his last 7 starts, Boyd owns a 1.93 ERA and 1.14 WHIP across 42.0 innings. Since the All-Star break, the Dodgers have been 25% below league average against lefties across 193 plate appearances. Wind blowing in slightly at Wrigley Field and that gives Boyd and pitchers in this game a slight boost.
MLB DFS Value Pitchers
Brandon Sproat (MIL)
Analysis: Talk about slumping. The Pittsburgh Pirates have a 27.9% K-rate and 90 wRC+ against right-handed hurlers since the All-Star break. They lost Ryan O'Hearn and gained Spencer Horwitz, which is definitely a downgrade. Sproat – although this isn't saying a lot – has the third best K-rate on the main slate. There's a decent ceiling here.
Michael King (SD)
Analysis: The Diamondbacks are the 30th ranked offense against right-handed pitching this year. They may not strike out a lot, but there aren't many serviceable pitchers in good spots today and King is on the short list. Definitely at least interesting.
Ian Seymour (TB)
Analysis: I know this game is being played in Coors and I like the Rockies, but I can acknowledge their flaws and who knows who's on the team by the trade deadline. Brenton Doyle's already been dealt and who knows who's next! The Rockies have a 25.1% K-rate and a 83 wRC+ against lefties this year. Seymour misses bats and has posted a near 28% K-rate. Something to keep in our minds.
Top Options For Strikeouts
K-prop lines and value ratings are incorporated below for DFS and prop context. These are the arms building the highest strikeout ceilings on the 9-game slate.
Our model identifies these arms as the highest-ceiling plays for Alt-K lines today:
Cam Schlittler: 30.7% K% (10.9 K/9)
Ian Seymour: 27.9% K% (10.3 K/9)
Brandon Sproat: 24.1% K% (9.3 K/9)
Aaron Nola (FD): 23.3% K% (9.2 K/9)
Andrew Alvarez (FD): 23% K% (9 K/9)
Best Odds For A Win
The following MLB DFS picks offer a combination of favorable win odds, sustainable ERA and xFIP metrics, and soft opponent matchups. Each carries K-prop lines worth noting alongside their DFS value at reduced ownership relative to the top tier.
- Aaron Nola +111
- Ian Seymour +146
- Logan Webb +174
- Michael King +174
MLB DFS Lineup Picks: Stacks & Hitters
MLB DFS Top Hitters
James Wood (OF, WAS) & CJ Abrams (SS, WAS)
Analysis: Lefty power has pounded Aaron Nola as he's allowed a .245 ISO to them and he's facing two of the best lefties in the game in Wood and Abrams. Both players have a .297 ISO or higher vs. RHP this year.
Junior Caminero (3B, TB) & Jonathan Aranda (1B, TB)
Analysis: Your chalk plays of the day. I lean Aranda over Yandy Diaz because Michael Lorenzen's splits have been so drastic and bad against left-handed bats.
Hunter Goodman (C, COL)
Analysis: Hunter Goodman just mashes and has as much upside as any other hitter in major league baseball. He has 33 HR this year and against lefties he has a .259 ISO and .393 wOBA.
Ben Rice (1B, NYY) & Luis Garcia Jr. (1B, NYY)
Analysis: The only place you can play both Rice and Garcia is FanDuel, but I love them both because Michael McGreevy is the luckiest pitcher on the face of the earth. Lefties have a .162 ISO but a .226 xISO and Rice and Garcia just hit for power against righties.
Yordan Alvarez (OF, HOU) & Jeremy Pena (SS, HOU)
Analysis: Righties have crushed Shane Bieber this year (Pena, check) and lefties have crushed Shane Bieber (Alvarez, check). OK, not much else to see here. 'Stros look amazing with these two atop the list.
MLB DFS Value Hitters
Kyle Karros (3B, COL)
Analysis: Karros has been a .300 hitter against lefties this season and has hit mostly in the two-hole against them. When a righty inevitably comes in later in the game, he's been a near .200 ISO player. Matchup proof.
Spencer Jones (OF, NYY)
Analysis: Jones has homered three times over his last five games and is hitting .300 since being recalled. He now has a .197 xISO against righties and his K-rate has fallen. Solid value.
Hunter Feduccia (C, TB)
Analysis: You don't often get a catcher in Coors at this price point, but alas, it's here. Michael Lorenzen has a .266 ISO vs. LHH. TBD
Dylan Crews (OF, WAS)
Analysis: Since the All-Star break, Dylan Crews has a .413 OBP, .529 SLG%, .255 ISO, and .411 wOBA. He looks like a much more complete hitter at the plate and Aaron Nola serves it up to both sides of the plate.
MLB DFS Top Stacks
Primary Stack: Tampa Bay Rays vs Michael Lorenzen (COL RHP)
Why: The 6.5 implied runs the Rays have today is 1.5 runs higher than any other team on the board. The Rays can throw a LOT of lefties at Lorenzen and the righties are Caminero and Diaz.
Targets: Junior Caminero, Jonathan Aranda, Yandy Diaz, Cedric Mullins, Victor Mesa, Chandler Simpson
Primary Stack: Colorado Rockies vs Ian Seymour (TB LHP)
Why: We don't know what will be left of the Rockies post-trade deadline, but they have some thump and they're home. Ian Seymour hasn't been unhittable and has to navigate the worst pitching environment in the league.
Targets: Hunter Goodman, Cole Carrigg, Willi Castro, Kyle Karros, TJ Rumfield, Jake McCarthy
“Contrarian” Stack: Houston Astros vs Shane Bieber (TOR RHP)
Why: Righties have a .271 ISO against Shane Bieber and lefties have a .222 ISO against him. The Astros have plenty of both split advantages here and plenty of power in a lineup currently rolling as they've won 11-of-12 overall.
Targets: Yordan Alvarez, Jeremy Pena, Jose Altuve, Yainer Diaz, Isaac Paredes, Christian Walker
"Contrarian" Stack: New York Yankees vs Michael McGreevy (STL RHP)
Why: Michael McGreevy is SO lucky and has to face a (slightly) improved Yankees lineup. Lefties have a .162 ISO against him but a .226 xISO. They also have posted a .315 wOBA but .374 xwOBA. Righties have a .177 ISO and .180 xISO. Now he has to navigate Yankee Stadium and can't miss bats?
Targets: Ben Rice, Luis Garcia Jr., Spencer Jones, Jasson Dominguez, Jazz Chisholm
MLB DFS Lineups: Core MLB DFS Hitters & Pitchers
| The "Chalk" (Popular) | The "Pivot" (Low Owned) | The Winning Logic |
| Sproat (SP, chalk) | Seymour (SP, lower owned) | Who knows what's left of COL after deadline. Bad offense vs. LHP. |
| Rays (Chalk) | Astros (pivot stack) | Low-owned Houston offense looks great. |
| Mullins + Simpson (chalk) | Pena + Altuve (lower owned) | Low-owned Houston offense looks great. |
