MLB Injury Report Update Ahead of This Weekend's Games

We are getting to that point of the season where being placed on the injured list effectively ends that player’s season. It’s already been reported that guys like Bo Bichette, Jose Soriano, and Willson Contreras are done for the regular season, while there’s hope for guys like Seth Lugo and Martin Perez. There’s hope that Will Smith and Xander Bogaerts return to action next week, while Houston is preparing for life without Yordan Alvarez for a bit. Other names in this fantasy baseball injury update include Ryan Bergert, Isaac Paredes, Colt Keith, and more.

As you prepare to finalize your fantasy baseball lineups for the upcoming week, don’t forget to take a look at James Grande’s best waiver wire pickups for the week.

MLB Week 26 Injury Report Update: Pitchers

Seth Lugo, Kansas City Royals - Back

Lugo was shut down for a few days after not responding all that well to a recent bullpen this week.

Jose Soriano, Los Angeles Angels - Forearm

Soriano’s last start ended early after taking a line drive off his right forearm. While X-rays were negative, he was placed on the injured list, and his 2025 season is over.

Ryan Bergert, Kansas City Royals - Elbow

Bergert was placed on the IL with an elbow strain, and his season is over.

Jose Quintana, Milwaukee Brewers - Calf

A calf strain will send Quintana to the injured list. His regular season is over, but I wouldn’t rule out a return in the postseason at this juncture.

Martin Perez, Chicago White Sox - Shoulder

Perez left his last start early with shoulder soreness. He’s day-to-day at this point.

MLB Week 26 Injury Report Update: Hitters

Kyle Tucker, Chicago Cubs - Calf

More tests are coming on Tucker’s calf injury, which isn’t great if you ask me. He’s currently on the injured list and hasn’t played since September 2.

Junior Caminero, Tampa Bay Rays - Back

Caminero is day-to-day with mid-back tightness.

Will Smith, Los Angeles Dodgers - Hand

Fantasy managers shouldn’t expect to see Smith in the lineup until the beginning of next week at the earliest. He’s still working back from a bone bruise in his right hand.

Yordan Alvarez, Houston Astros - Ankle

Alvarez has a “significant” ankle sprain, and he could be out of the lineup for quite some time.

Colt Keith, Detroit Tigers - Back

Keith is dealing with low back tightness and is day-to-day. However, it seems relatively serious, so I’d expect Detroit to be without him for at least the next week plus.

Xander Bogaerts, San Diego Padres - Foot

There’s optimism that Bogaerts can return on or around September 22.

Isaac Paredes, Houston Astros - Hamstring

Paredes continues to rehab from a significant hamstring strain, but an activation could be coming in the very, very near future.

Willson Contreras, St. Louis Cardinals - Biceps

Contreras has a right biceps strain, and the plan is that he remains on the IL through the rest of the regular season.

Bo Bichette, Toronto Blue Jays - Knee

Bichette won’t return before the end of the regular season, but the hope is that he can return during Toronto’s postseason run.

Adley Rutschman, Baltimore Orioles - Oblique

Rutschman began a rehab assignment, and barring any setbacks, he should return at some point next week. He’s been on the injured list with an oblique strain since mid-August.
