Seattle Mariners vs. Houston Astros Predictions: Saturday, September 20th
As the regular season winds down, the Mariners and Astros are battling it out for the AL West crown. Whoever finishes second is also trying to maintain a spot in the playoffs as an AL Wild Card team. This is a huge weekend series, so let’s get some action on Saturday night’s game.Â
Astros starter Framber Valdez has really struggled over the past two months. He has a rough 6.41 ERA over his past eight starts. It’s been smart to fade the left-hander lately, but we’re doing the opposite today.Â
Valdez’s home/road splits this season are eye-opening. He boasts a 2.21 ERA when pitching in Houston, compared to a 4.96 ERA on the road. We should get the better version of the Astros’ southpaw at home this weekend. As shaky as he’s been recently, many of those poor outings have come on the road. Valdez has a 2.06 ERA over his past seven home starts.Â
Plus, Valdez has good recent numbers against Seattle. He boasts a 0.75 ERA over two starts against the Mariners this season. Over his career, he has a 3.22 ERA over 18 appearances (16 starts) vs. the division rival.Â
On the other side, the Astros should provide some run support. Mariners starter George Kirby is on the wrong end of his home/road splits. The righty has a 5.74 ERA on the road compared to a 3.36 ERA at home. He’s also given up seven-plus earned runs in two of his last three road outings.Â
Kirby has a shaky 4.46 ERA overall this season while being inconsistent start-to-start, especially on the road. Lately, the Seattle right-hander has a 6.60 ERA over his past six starts. He now faces a Houston offense that has a .351 wOBA and 126 wRC+ vs. righties over the past week (eighth in MLB).Â
Let’s back the Astros at home. They should have more motivation to win tonight after dropping Friday’s game to Seattle. The Houston offense also just got a boost with Isaac Paredes returning from injury. His presence in the lineup will help mitigate the recent loss of Yordan Alvarez.Â

San Francisco Giants vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Predictions: Saturday, September 20th
There are plenty of playoff implications with this weekend’s Giants vs. Dodgers series. Los Angeles is still trying to lock up the NL West, while San Francisco is fighting for an NL Wild Card berth. Let’s break down the divisional rivalry matchup on Saturday night.Â
The Dodgers have an immediate edge based on the starting pitching matchup. Tyler Glasnow is pitching very well for LA lately. He owns a 2.66 ERA over 11 starts since returning from injury in July. He’s also allowed two earned runs or fewer in five of his last seven outings coming into this one.Â
Meanwhile, Giants starter Kai-Wei Teng has a 6.41 ERA and 1.61 WHIP over seven appearances this season. He now has to face the loaded Dodgers offense on the road. It could be rough for the right-hander. Over the past week vs. righties, Los Angeles has a .349 wOBA, 124 wRC+, and .825 OPS.Â
As the Dodgers put up runs, Glasnow should deal in his own matchup. The Giants are struggling against right-handed pitching right now. Over the past week in the split, San Fran has a league-worst .198 wOBA and 24 wRC+.Â
It’s a favorable spot for Glasnow, who boasts a 2.38 ERA at home this year. He also just faced the Giants last weekend and allowed just one run over 6.2 innings. He should anchor things early on, but let’s avoid dealing with the Dodgers’ bullpen.
