Guardians vs. Tigers Predictions For MLB On FOX, 5/24

Despite this being an AL Central rivalry, it’s the first series of 2025 between the Guardians and Tigers. So, it’s safe to say that Cleveland will be looking to get some revenge on Detroit from last year.

Well, from a betting perspective, that is. Jose Ramirez and company went just 5-13 against the run line versus Tarik Skubal and the guys last season, but they still won 10 of those 18 games. That’s all they’re concerned about tonight, and given the starting pitching matchup on the mound, we see the Guardians vs. Tigers odds having Detroit favored.

That’s along with the fact that they’ve been incredible at home this season, so there is plenty to consider when it comes to locking in the best bet from our Guardians vs. Tigers predictions.

Cleveland Guardians: Luis L. Ortiz - Which One?

To try and take down the juggernaut that is the Tigers - it’s been a while since that phrase has been used - the Guardians are sending Luis L. Ortiz to the mound. That said, fans may still be asking, “Who?” There are multiple MLB pitchers with the name Luis L. Ortiz, such as Philadelphia Phillies reliever.

It makes things even more difficult to follow, given that he joined the Guardians after three years with the Pittsburgh Pirates, and he’s far from a household name. Sitting at just 2-5 on the season, he’s far from a replacement for ace Shane Bieber. At least, Cleveland fans can hang their hat on his other start against an AL Central team - a win over the Kansas City Royals.

Detroit Tigers: Casey Mize Mowing Down Lineups…Again.

When it comes to the Tigers' starting rotation, there’s no denying that it’s Tarik Skubal - the 2024 AL Cy Young winner - that steals the show. However, some fans may remember that Casey Mize entered the league with plenty of hype himself. Unfortunately, as is often the case for pitchers, injuries have slowed things down.

Finally, 2025 seems to be his year. Mize’s 2.53 ERA may not blow you away, but it’s certainly strong, and it’s led to him boasting a 6-1 record so far this season. We say again because he just missed a few starts with a hamstring injury, but it was just a 15-day IL stint with him now slotted for the start.

Guardians vs. Tigers Best Bet: Luis L. Ortiz Over 4.5 Strikeouts (-170 At DraftKings Sportsbook)

It’s safe to say that Cleveland started this series in the best way possible back on Thursday night, which was an impressive 7-0 shutout victory. Taking down Detroit in Motor City has been few and far between this season, so naturally, we’re somehow focused on Cleveland again for our Guardians vs. Tigers predictions.

It’s even more surprising that we’re doing so, given that we previously said, Luis L. Ortiz, who? Whether he’s well-known or not, the fact remains that he’s been fantastic for bettors backing the former Pirate. The Guardians starter may not have the best record in the MLB, but he’s now hit over his strikeout prop in five of his last seven starts.

Better yet, he’s done so with ease. In four of those five starts, he finished with 8+ strikeouts, including 10 in the aforementioned outing against the Royals. Furthermore, as great as the Tigers have been this year at getting wins, they have allowed opposing starters to feast and pad their strikeout numbers.

Detroit has struck out the fifth-most times this year - even Cleveland starter Tanner Bibee recorded eight strikeouts back in the series opener. Riley Greene alone could account for two or three, so we love Luis L. Ortiz over 4.5 strikeouts (-170at DraftKings Sportsbook) as the best bet from our Guardians vs. Tigers picks.

Guardians vs. Tigers Injury Report & Starting Pitchers

We covered the Casey Mize return nice and early, so for today’s matchup specifically, that’s the Guardians vs. Tigers injury news we’re focused on. As for overall updates, Cleveland recently saw the return of Will Brennan, so other than starter Ben Lively on the 15-day IL, they are quite healthy.

In Detroit, their other big concerns are in the outfield with Parker Meadows and Matt Vierling. The latter, dealing with injuries all season, makes their great year thus far even more impressive, as does their rotation. Speaking of which, here are the expected Guardians vs. Tigers starters for today:
