2023 Player Outlook

Even though the Bears were the second run-heaviest team in the NFL in 2022, Khalil Herbert never got the opportunity to take over as the lead back, only seeing 37.5% of the snaps. Sure, he was hurt for four games, but you would think someone with a 5.7 yards per carry average would get to carry the ball a little more than that. The problem with Herbert is his pass blocking, which ranked 90th among running backs in 2022. We've seen it time and time again, but to get on the field, you have to play a complete game, and unless Herbert improves in that area, it's unlikely he takes over as the lead back even with David Montgomery now in Detroit.
