2023 Player Outlook

2023 Recap: Albeit seeing just 44 plate appearances with the club in 2023, Herrera impressed, slashing .297/.409/.351 with a 91.3 mph average exit velocity. It's hard to glean a lot from such a small sample size, but Herrera is a toolsy young backstop who might be the catcher of the future for St. Louis.

2024 Outlook: The team still has Willson Contreras in the mix, and they need his bat in the lineup, but Herrera is going to get his fair share of playing time, whether it be behind the dish or even as the DH against southpaws. He may not hit for an overly high average at the beginning of his major league career, but he's done damage at each stop in the minors, including posting a .500 SLG and .203 ISO in 23 games last year at Triple-A. Oh, he also stole 11 bases! If something were to happen to Contreras, Herrera would be a very intriguing pickup for a catcher-needy fantasy team. The young catcher can be left off your fantasy radar on draft day but remember his name once the season gets started.
