For much of this month, we have noticed the erosion of the middle tier of forwards for WNBA DFS. With Tuesday’s three-team WNBA DFS slate, we also have a virtually non-existent middle tier of guards. Between injuries and underperformance, the middle-tier at both positions has become inconsistent at best. The players who get consistent minutes usually have low usage, and the best per-minute players like Jonquel Jones and Teaira McCowan have a cap on their minutes.

We have had some success this season playing stars-and-scrubs lineups, even when our punt plays haven’t produced the way we had hoped. I think this strategy is basically a necessity for Tuesday’s slate. You can roll the dice on the middle tier if you want, but if our options outside of the top tier are all inconsistent, I would like them to be cheap as well.

WNBA DFS Picks June 27

Guards

Lindsay AllenMINSEA410011.65410011.24
Allen has played at least 23 minutes in three straight games, averaging 20.3 fppg in those contests. With Tiffany Mitchell out, Allen should see at least that many minutes again Tuesday.
DiJonai CarringtonCONNY470013.85470013.72
Carrington is probably going to turn into a pumpkin at some point, but the Liberty are ninth in fantasy points allowed to guards and her teammates are all either too expensive or too inconsistent. Carrington has played at least 22 minutes and scored at least 26.75 fantasy points in two straight games and its worth a shot to see if she can make it three-in-a-row.
Jewell LoydSEAMIN1110039.69840038.07
You can pivot to Arike Ogunbowale if you want, but Ogunbowale was inconsistent in her two meetings with Phoenix. Loyd has averaged 45.0 fantasy points her last four games, and Minnesota is 11th in fantasy points allowed to guards. With Tiffany Mitchell out, I don't think Minnesota has anyone capable of staying in front of Loyd.
Moriah JeffersonPHODAL490014.86430014.44
With Shey Peddy out and Sophie Cunningham questionable, Jefferson could play heavy minutes. Jefferson is probably safer than DiJonai Carrington regardless of Cunningham's status but Jefferson's ceiling is diminished if Cunningham plays.
Diana TaurasiPHODAL730030630028.43
You could talk me into playing Taurasi on FanDuel, and she is entirely too cheap on DraftKings. Taurasi has at least 21.5 fantasy points in eight of her nine games, and she averaged 35.3 fantasy points in her two games against Dallas. Only five guards on the slate are averaging more fantasy points than Taurasi but 11 cost more than her on DraftKings.

Joyner HolmesSEAMIN36008.4338008.45
Holmes played 26 minutes and scored 31 fantasy points Saturday with Jordan Horston out. Holmes could lose some minutes to Mercedes Russell, especially if this game is close, but she is too cheap if she is going to play 20+ minutes.
Dorka JuhaszMINSEA550013.6430014.16
Juhasz left last Tuesday's game after playing just eight minutes due to a nose injury, but she has at least 20 fantasy points in each of the last three games she has finished. Seattle is 11th in fantasy points allowed to forwards this season.
Ezi MagbegorSEAMIN1040034.71760035.72
Magbegor has slowed down a bit lately, though we can blame Saturday's low fantasy-point total on the fact the game was a blowout. Magbegor still has at least 27.5 fantasy points in 12 straight games, and she is the safest forward on the slate outside of the big three who are much more expensive.
Jonquel JonesNYCON840022580021.60
I don't understand why Jones is playing so few minutes, especially with Stef Dolson out. That being said, she has at least 28 fantasy points in four of her last six games, and this is her first game in Connecticut since she left in free agency.
Breanna StewartNYCON1280049.56970049.54
Stewart has at least 40 fantasy points in all 10 games this season that weren't against Washginton. I don't think Connecticut has anyone to match up with Stewart now that Brionna Jones is out.

Kayla ThorntonNYCON370013.46400013.79
Thornton played 24 minutes Sunday with Stefanie Dolson out, and her price we down $1,500. Joyner Holmes is probably safer, but Holmes is listed as a guard on FanDuel. Thornton ihas averaged 18.5 fantasy points in her last two games, which is perfectly reasonable for her price.
Brittney GrinerPHODAL1030035.44830036.79
There is a compelling argument to be made to skip the elite forwards and stick to the lower end of the top tier. Griner started the season with seven straight games with at least 30 fantasy points, including both games against Dallas. She played just 20 minutes Saturday in her return from a hip injury but still finished with 23.5 fantasy points. She should be safe against a Dallas team that is 10th in fantasy points allowed to forwards.
