After more than a week away the WNBA DFS Playbook is back, and it feels good. Between the All-Star Break and a couple of smaller slates, we return with three games Thursday night. Minnesota hosts Los Angeles in the early game while Las Vegas @ Seattle and Chicago @ Phoenix both tip off at 10:00 PM ET. Despite the All-Star Break, there is still a fair amount of injury news heading into the slate. Diana Taurasi, Candace Parker and Chiney Ogwumike have all been ruled out, while Lexi Brown is questionable and Aerial Powers is probable.
One thing I would keep in mind is to not load up on too many players from the early game. With two late games, it could be important to maintain flexibility in case any new breaks after the first game begins.
WNBA DFS Picks July 20
| Guards | ||||||
| Player | Team | Opp. | DK $ | DK FPPG | FD $ | FD FPPG |
| Kelsey Plum | LV | SEA | 10400 | 30.44 | 6700 | 29.16 |
| Plum has averaged 41.5 fantasy points in the three games Candace Parker has missed, which is better than both Jackie Young and Chelsea Gray. I might pivot to Young on DraftKings but Plum is a fantastic play on FanDuel. | ||||||
| Jordin Canada | LA | MIN | 8100 | 27.57 | 6300 | 27.59 |
| Minnesota has allowed the most fantasy points to opposing guards and Canada is the only player I trust to take advantage. Canada has averaged 35.5 fantasy points in three games against Minnesota and I see no reason why Thursday would be any different. | ||||||
| Sug Sutton | PHO | CHI | 5700 | 19.32 | 4400 | 18.23 |
| The last time Diana Taurasi was out, Sutton played 26 minutes off the bench. I would like her much better if she starts but she is a nice value even off the bench, especially on DraftKings. | ||||||
| Tiffany Mitchell | MIN | LA | 5600 | 17.73 | 3600 | 16.86 |
| Mitchell missed nearly a month due to a wrist injury but she returned Tuesday to play 17 minutes off the bench. It is likely only a matter of time before Mitchell returns to her starting role, especially with Rachel Banham out for the foreseeable future. Mitchell is a must-play if she starts but even off the bench, there is a chance she provides great value. | ||||||
| Kahleah Copper | CHI | PHO | 8600 | 27.17 | 5600 | 25.59 |
| Marina Mabrey and Courtney Williams both stumbled (to varying degrees) into the All-Star break, while Copper has scored at least 27.5 fantasy points in three straight games. I like Copper on both sites but especially on FanDuel, where she is the cheapest of the three Chicago guards. | ||||||
| Forwards | ||||||
| Player | Team | Opp. | DK $ | DK FPPG | FD $ | FD FPPG |
| Michaela Onyenwere | PHO | CHI | 7100 | 20.48 | 5400 | 19.95 |
| The last time Diana Taurasi was out, two weeks ago, Onyenwere got the start and scored 34.5 fantasy points in 32 minutes. I might pivot if she comes off the bench but Onyenwere should be a nice value in either role. | ||||||
| Alysha Clark | LV | SEA | 6500 | 13.27 | 4600 | 12.84 |
| Clark has played at least 22 minutes in all three games Candace Parker has missed, scoring at least 24.25 fantasy points in two of those. You can pivot to Kiah Stokes if you need to but Clark's playing time has been more consistent, so she gets the edge for me. | ||||||
| Dearica Hamby | LA | MIN | 6800 | 21.48 | 5700 | 21.16 |
| Hamby played just five minutes at Phoenix due to an ankle injury but she returned for the last game before the All-Star break to score 19.25 fantasy points in 25 minutes off the bench. Azura Stevens has taken Hamby's spot as the number two next to Nneka Ogwumike but Hamby is too cheap considering she is basically guaranteed to play at least 25 minutes. I'll like her better if she returns to the starting lineup but she's a nice value either way, especially on DraftKings. | ||||||
| Azura Stevens | LA | MIN | 9300 | 21.22 | 6800 | 21.79 |
| I've been advocating for Azura Stevens all season but now that she appears to have broken out, I am a bit skeptical. That being said, she has averaged 35.2 fantasy points in the last five games with Chiney Ogwumike out despite coming off the bench for three of those. Nneka Ogwumike is safer but Stevens is providing the same production at a discount price. | ||||||
| Napheesa Collier | MIN | LA | 11300 | 40.77 | 8800 | 41.03 |
| Collier has averaged 48.8 fantasy points in three games against Los Angeles this season. I don't trust Seattle to keep their game close enough for A'ja Wilson to score elite fantasy points, which makes Collier the clear top-tier forward on both sites. | ||||||
| Elizabeth Williams | CHI | PHO | 9000 | 24.35 | 6500 | 26.08 |
| Most of what I wrote about Azura Stevens applies to Elizabeth Williams. She produced like an elite forward in the last few games before the All-Star Break and while I don't entirely trust it, I don't trust most of the players who cost more than her, either. Williams has played at least 32 minutes in four straight games, averaging 35.0 fppg. If she matches that production, she is still too cheap. | ||||||
