PGA DFS Coverage for The CJ Cup

This is the second week of our two events in collaboration with the Japan Golf Tour but not recognized as an official event for them. A bulk of the players travel from Japan at the ZOZO CHAMPIONSHIP to South Carolina for this year’s CJ Cup. The tournament will be hosted by Congaree Country Club in Ridgeland. Rory McIlory returns to action this weekend after winning the 2021 edition of this event at the Summit Club in Las Vegas, Nevada. The best field of the 2022-2023 PGA Tour season appears this weekend in the Palmetto state.

The Field: The CJ Cup

As mentioned above, the stars are out in full force this weekend in South Carolina. Aside from defending champion Rory McIlory, we’ve got Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler, Justin Thomas, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Sam Burns, Viktor Hovland, Collin Morikawa, Jordan Spieth and more! This is once again an invitational, which typically means a bigger purse and better field. Of the 78 players in the field, we’ve got a bunch of players who have not teed it up in quite a while. We could see some rust on Thursday and Friday. Other names of note to keep an eye on this weekend; Tom Kim, Tyrrell Hatton, Cameron Young, Shane Lowry, and Taylor Montgomery. This is a no cut event which means your whole roster of golfers will play all four rounds this weekend no matter what. That’s something to keep in mind when picking your players, you can be a little more risky with your lineups.

The Course: Congaree Golf Club

This course hosted the 2021 Palmetto Championship, so there are players who are familiar with the track. Conagree is a par-71 that stretches out 7,655 yards — that’s massive. There are two par-4s that are over 500 yards but also two that should be drivable for most of the field. The par-5 fourth hole is 645 yards which is the second longest hole on the PGA Tour schedule. While the course is long, it is incredibly flat with little to no rough. Players will tee off onto fairways but there is no in between fairway and sand and there’s a lot of sand. This isn’t trap sand, it’s just standing sand all around the course kind of like what we saw at Kiawah and the players will be allowed to ground their clubs. You will want to as always target players who will have great iron play and approach into these greens. When these players miss these greens which will happen a lot, Strokes Gained: Around the Green will be vital which goes along with scrambling as well.

The Weather: Ridgeland, South Carolina

The players dealt with some wet conditions early in the week at the ZOZO CHAMPIONSHIP but that won’t be the case this weekend. We will see clear skies and temperatures starting in the high-60s on Thursday and slowly climb to the upper-70s by Sunday afternoon.

How To Watch The CJ Cup

The best part about this tournament is that it’s back on the east coast and in a regular time zone.  It will be incredibly easy to follow the television schedule for this event.  The tournament will air from 3-6pm ET Thursday thru Sunday on the Golf Channel.
