PGA DFS Coverage for the Sanderson Farms Championship

Congratulations to the United States on a dominating victory in last weekend’s Presidents Cup over the Internationals. The win was never really in doubt but it is always nice to see the U.S. take home the gold.

The PGA Tour resumes its regularly scheduled programming this weekend in Jackson, Mississippi at the Sanderson Farms Championship. The field of 144 golfers will compete at the Country Club of Jackson. It will be a less than stellar field in the Magnolia state. Defending champions, Sam Burns is our top priced option and after that the field strength drops off the table. Despite the talent, we will see lots of birdies and low scores. The winner will be the player who can go low four straight days.

The Field: Sanderson Farms Championship

As mentioned above, after defending champion Sam Burns, the talent level starts to take a real nose dive. Of the 144 players in the field, there are only two players inside the Top-40 in the world golf rankings. There are a lot of up and comers like Sahith Theegala, Taylor Montgomery, Davis Riley, Thomas Detry, Aaron Rai, and Justin Suh. This is our chance to scout out some of the lesser known players for the bulk of the PGA Tour season. These could be the value plays that could help us take down the GPP later this season.

The Course: Country Club of Jackson

The Country Club of Jackson is a stock par-72 measuring out 7,461 yards. Even a field like this one will be able to take advantage of a course like this one. The last five winners of this event have come in at -22, -19, -18, -21, and -19. That means we’ll see a lot of birdies this weekend.

Strokes Gained: Approach is always the number one category every week but I’ll be putting some extra weight on Strokes Gained: Off the Tee knowing we’ve got four par 5s and a course with decent length.  When you look at some of the recent winners and their driving abilities the importance is obvious. 2021 winner Sam Burns finished that season 24th in Driving Distance, Sergio Garcia won in 2020 and finished that season 3rd in Strokes Gained Off the Tee, 2018 winner Cameron Champ  and finished that season sixth in Strokes Gained Off the Tee. These players can bomb away because the fairways are very forgiving. Greens in regulation will be a key stat knowing these guys need to go low. Putting is always important but when you look at the tournament history, we’ve seen guys finish middle of the pack and still have success.

The Weather: Jackson, Mississippi

There should be nothing to worry about this weekend in Jackson besides a little humidity. The weather looks absolutely perfect with temperatures in the upper-70s with sunny skies. We will see winds tickling double digits but nothing that these players can’t handle.

How To Watch the Sanderson Farms Championship

It will be very easy to follow the tournament this weekend. Thursday and Friday the coverage will be from 3:30-6:30pm ET on Golf Channel. Saturday and Sunday the time will shift to 4-7pm ET.  These fall swing schedule events don’t get a lot of coverage.
