PGA DFS Coverage for the Genesis Scottish Open

The PGA tour and the DP World Tour have come together to form this joint venture called the Genesis Scottish Open. Traditionally, the Scottish Open was exclusively an European Tour event but it has become the unofficial tune up tournament for the Open Championship. This event is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2022. In 2017, the Scottish Open was made a part of the brand new Rolex Series which features five tournaments and a seven million dollar prize. This is the first year the event is co-sanctioned by both tours.  There is a second-tier tournament going on in Kentucky this week — the Barbasol Championship. This week’s PGA DFS coverage will be focused on the Scottish.

The Field: Genesis Scottish Open

The biggest names on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour are participating this weekend in North Berwick, Scotland. The members of the LIV have been banned from this event in a joint decision by both tours. World No. 1 and Masters champ Scottie Scheffler, PGA Championship winner Justin Thomas, U.S. Open champion Matthew Fitzpatrick, Jon Rahm, Xander Schauffele, Patrick Cantlay, Collin Morikawa, Will Zalatoris and 148 more of the world's best golfers tee it up this weekend at the Renaissance Club. This is an event where you are going to find tons of great value because of the amount of top-tier golfers playing.

The Course: Renaissance Club

This event is typically played over various courses but for the fourth straight year they call the Renaissance Club home. It is a links-style course which serves as a warm up act for next week’s Open Championship at St. Andrews. It will play as a Par 70, stretches out 7,293 yards and the greens are fescue. The average winning score over the last three years at this course is 16 under par but the winning score will entirely depend on the winds. Like most Scottish links-style courses, the primary defense are the winds and breezes off the coastlines. The key to success on this course is to keep out of the rough and ball control on the greens.

The Weather: North Berwick, Scotland

I just spoke about the importance of the weather forecast when it comes to the difficulty of this course.  If the winds are high, the scores will drop but if it’s calm, we could see the winner get into 20 plus under par like it did in 2019.  Right now, the winds looks to be relatively calm throughout the weekend but things could change, so keep your eye on it as we get closer to Thursday.  The temperatures should be in the high 60s and low 70s.
