NFL Week 17 Picks Against The Spread: Houston Texans +1.5 (-105 at FanDuel Sportsbook)
Who would've thought that after only playing six games this season, Joe Alt would be named a Pro Bowler? This can be looked at through two different lenses: either Joe Alt is THAT impactful, or the Pro Bowl is THAT much of a popularity contest. Personally, I think it is a little bit of both. While the Chargers have managed their offensive line woes fairly well, dealing with several starters and depth pieces getting injured throughout the year, it still has not been perfect.
Over their past four games, they have given up a total of 14 sacks, and that was against the bottom of the barrel Raiders, the struggling Chiefs, the Eagles without Jalen Carter, and they only had success against the Eberflus-led Cowboys, who likely could be employing a new defensive coordinator next year. Not the best lineup of opponents to have hitting your quarterback.
I know the Chargers looked brilliant last week against the Cowboys, but this is a Texans team yet to lock in their playoff spot. They are hot, and they have one of, if not the best, defenses in the league. The Chargers' banged-up offensive line hasn't faced a pass rush quite like this one, and I think it'll be the difference in this one. Give me the Texans to keep this game within a point, if not win outright.
NFL Week 17 Picks Against The Spread: Dallas Cowboys -7 (-112 at Caesars Sportsbook)
Nothing like some Christmas Day football. Especially when the Christmas Day games are made up of matchups with little to no playoff implications, with three different teams starting their third-string quarterbacks. How exciting! Not to sound cynical, but I expect all of these games to be blowouts, with this Cowboys vs. Commanders game possibly being the worst of them all.
At least for the other two games, you can cite the Chiefs and Vikings for having good defenses to hopefully slow down the healthy offenses against them. The Washington Commanders are bottom of the league in just about every defensive statistic, and they have a banged-up offense. Now, they face a Cowboys team that boasts a top offensive unit and a defensive coach coaching for his future with the team. I don't expect this game to be close and think any Lamb or Pickens fantasy managers to be very happy with the outcome of this one.
