Lions vs. Vikings Predictions for Christmas Day, NFL Week 17
Absolute mayhem. That, along with heartbreak, is what Lions fans just dealt with on Sunday. The ending to their loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers has been replayed non-stop, but at the end of the day, it has made their path to a postseason berth much, much more difficult. Of course, the other side of any Lions vs. Vikings predictions won’t be in the playoffs either.
Keeping in mind that Detroit was among the favorites to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl, it’s been quite a disappointment. Even still, they have an explosive offense with incredible weapons that can absolutely beat the best when they’re running on all cylinders. Well, they weren’t firing that way when these NFC North rivals met back in Week 9.
Those who backed Minnesota with their Lions vs. Vikings predictions were able to cash thanks to a 27-24 victory, ending a five-game losing streak to Detroit. However, JJ McCarthy suffered yet another injury in their win over the New York Giants on Sunday, which was quite a sloppy game of football.
His hand injury comes after a high ankle sprain and concussion, but X-rays came back negative. We’ll have to consider even more injuries while coming up with a best bet from our Lions vs. Vikings predictions and add to our NFL expert picks.

Lions vs. Vikings Best Bet: David Montgomery Anytime TDÂ (+140 at Onyx Odds)
Even earlier in the win against the Giants, we also saw Jordan Mason leave and not return with an ankle injury. After seeing the Steelers gash the Detroit defense on the ground, he’ll certainly want to be back to be a factor in any Lions vs. Vikings predictions. For what it’s worth, Aaron Jones has been able to remain healthy for a while now.
The two of them split carries (9 and 10) back in Week 9, so they haven’t been a fun pick-your-poison situation to target in terms of player props. We also need to remember that the Lions are without a TD scorer from that previous meeting - Sam LaPorta. That said, we’ve seen Isaac TeSlaa step up in a big way as another premier pass catcher.
As acrobatic of catches as he can make, we expect Dan Campbell to go out and silence the critics. All that is going to be heard in Detroit leading up to this Christmas kickoff is how they had just 15 rushing yards against the Steelers! So, why on Earth would we target an RB with our Lions vs. Vikings predictions?
While they do need to improve their interior offensive line, the ground is where teams attack Minnesota. In fact, the Giants didn’t even attempt a single pass until shortly before halftime on Sunday! Not that we want to compare the Lions to the Giants, but as for the Vikings, they have a top-five defense in terms of EPA per pass.
On the flip side, they have the 20th-ranked defensive EPA per rush. Even with that advantage, we’re still going to go with a TD rather than sweat out a yardage prop. As much attention as Jahmyr Gibbs and Amon-Ra St. Brown receive, and rightfully so, David Montgomery has scored a TD against Minnesota in three of his four games as a Lion.
Along with plenty of experience against them as a Chicago Bear, we’ve got David Montgomery anytime TD (+140 at Onyx Odds) as the best bet from our Lions vs. Vikings predictions.
