Nothing better than a matchup between a couple of hot teams, right? And yes, the New Orleans Saints did lose last week. But anytime you can mount a comeback and push Dan Campbell’s Lions into essentially a single-play coin flip in overtime, I count that team as hot. If the Saints do convert that two-point conversion, maybe folks are thinking differently about them.

The Ravens are even hotter, having dispatched the hopeful Indianapolis Colts in impressive fashion, 41-23. But the real storyline for both these teams is health - particularly with the wide receivers. The Saints were already down rookie Jordyn Tyson, then lost Chris Olave this past week. Ravens rookie Ja’Kobi Lane suffered a broken wrist, while Zay Flowers left with a hamstring and is in doubt for this week. That changes the formula here for this Week 2 matchup.

I know there is a bit of juice on this one. But we are talking about three catches here for what will probably be the top wide receiver for Lamar Jackson. Just last week, Bateman actually led the Ravens pass-catchers with 29 routes run based on the injuries over there. The nature of the way Lamar Jackson plays, buying time with his legs while defenders slowly lose track of their man or run out of steam, creates opportunities regardless of the talent presented in front of them. 

And we still believe in the talent with Bateman - it’s not like he’s some washed-up 30+ year old vet we are talking about. He’s a 26-year-old wideout who is smack in the age apex that was extended by the Ravens. Because they believe in him too. I’m personally getting in at over 2.5, but I’m also going to sprinkle the alt-line on DraftKings of 4+ catches at +184. The Saints should be able to push back enough here that the Ravens will need to lean on what they have left available.

As we mentioned, health is a problem here for the Ravens pass-catchers. WR Ja’Kobi Lane already had surgery, and WR Zay Flowers (hamstring) is doubtful. But the line is still heavily in the Ravens favor, largely because of Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry. In other injury news, T Ronnie Stanley (toe) and OLB Trey Hendrickson (finger) are both questionable, though they are a little more hopeful to play. Calais Campbell and S Keondre Jackson are full, which is good news on the defensive side of the ball. 

On the Saints side, the injury stories are starting to overshadow the big comeback attempt last week. Star receiver Chris Olave is officially questionable for this week, which hurts considering they are already without rookie first-round pick Jordyn Tyson. The pass rush is also banged up, with both Cameron Jordan (hamstring) and Chase Young (calf) limited. RB Alvin Kamara is a full participant despite a knee designation, which is good news for him but bad news for Travis Etienne owners in fantasy football, as the work was already split with Kendre Miller last week. LS Zach Wood (calf) is out, a minor but notable special teams wrinkle on the road, as teams don’t often carry a backup longsnapper.
