Browns vs. Jaguars Predictions, Picks & Odds: NFL Week 1, 9/13
These teams are in two different stages of the NFL cycle. The Jaguars are an NFL playoff team. They are competing to win NOW. They’ve loaded up on weapons like Brian Thomas Jr, Jakobi Meyers, Parker Washington, Bhayshul Tuten, and Chris Rodriguez. It’s not a stretch to imagine their quarterback, Trevor Lawrence, in the MVP conversation.
The Browns, on the other hand, are playing for the future. In fact, they traded away their best player, Myles Garrett, to focus on that future. That also included using their first two picks in the NFL Draft on receivers KC Concepcion and Denzel Boston. The biggest question remains the quarterback position where they’ll give Deshaun Watson one more chance before moving on to youngsters Shedeur Sanders and Taylen Green.
🏅 Browns vs. Jaguars Expert Pick: Chris Rodriguez Anytime Touchdown (+165 on DraftKings)
I think the Jaguars take care of business pretty easily here. But any time the spreads get this high, you run into incentive issues with whether teams need to fully pour it on and win by “two scores” like the line suggests or whether they are just content winning the game. It’s always a tough ask when the spread is 8.5.
We do believe that the Jaguars will score some touchdowns along the way. And, if that includes some goal-line work, maybe if there is a pass interference in the endzone, Chris Rodriguez is likely the guy you send down to punch it in. Liam Coen actually coached Rodriguez in college at Kentucky and has had a lot to say about him this offseason. He’s praised some of the things you “can’t coach” like yards after contact and getting that tough yard when you need it. Bhayshul Tuten might be the speedster who gets touches in space or on pass downs but, when push comes to shove, I think Rodriguez will be the hammer that drive the ball home in the short yardage - which includes goal line.

🏉 Browns vs. Jaguars Injury Report & Latest News
The biggest Browns vs. Jaguars news heading into Week 1 is Deshaun Watson making his first start in nearly two years after tearing his ACL twice. He beat out Shedeur Sanders for that gig this offseason, but not in particularly impressive fashion. New head coach Todd Monken will also make his debut in Cleveland hoping to turn things around. On the injury front, Teven Jenkins exited Wednesday's practice with a back injury so we’re monitoring offensive line health. Elsewhere on the Browns' injury report, defensive tackle Maliek Collins (quad) and center Parker Brailsford (thumb) were both limited, while defensive end Alex Wright is already ruled out after suffering an Achilles injury during the preseason.
On the Jacksonville side, the Jaguars seem fairly healthy here and quarterback Trevor Lawrence has a deep array of weapons. So deep in fact that their second overall pick last year, Travis Hunter, who was expected to play both ways is likely to play mostly defense and nly sporadic offense. The notable names to watch on the injury front are receiver Jakobi Meyers (hand), who picked up the injury in a joint practice but told reporters he expects to play Sunday, and running back LeQuint Allen, who hasn't practiced in weeks and is considered a game-time decision. Right tackle Cole Van Lanen is also ramping back from a knee injury and is listed as a game-time call.
