These are always fun games to watch. Two teams that are finally looking to turn the corner. They’ve gone through the rebuild, they found coaches that they like, players they can count on. There’s finally some excitement in town and now it’s time to prove that you’re a real competitor in this league.

On the Bears side, they have one of the hottest young coaches in Ben Johnson. They’ve been able to turnover the roster to focus on his type of guys with Rome Odunze, Luther Burden, Colston Loveland, and D’Andre Swift all led by quarterback Caleb Williams. Four of those guys are on rookie deals while Swift just got an extension yesterday so, if things break right, the Bears could be a problem for awhile.

The Panthers are no slouches either. They won the division last year and, though Bryce Young is still trying to prove that he deserves an extension, he’s at least proven that he can win games at this level. They have some exciting weapons of their own with guys like Tetairoa McMillan, Jalen Coker, Chuba Hubbard, and Jonathon Brooks, who is looking to make his big comeback after some injury setbacks.

 

 

 

🏅 Bears vs. Panthers Expert Pick: Tommy Tremble Longest Reception Under 10.5 Yards (-115 on DraftKings)

This one really doesn’t have much to do with the matchup. The Bears aren’t particularly special against the tight end. It more has to do with a betting line where I’m a little confused why it is even out there. I know most people like betting the over on longest reception lines because that is what is “fun” but we like taking the unders. Not only do you win if they don’t catch a pass that long but you win if they don’t catch a pass at all - and that could happen here.

Tommy Tremble has had a lot of opportunities to run with the pass catching tight end job for the Panthers - and he hasn’t. Not only did they add Ja’Tavion Sanders but they also added Darren Waller. That makes him squarely the third best pass-catching tight end on the team for a guy who was already primarily the blocking tight end when there were two tight ends on the team. Obviously anyone could sneak out and make a play but I don’t think it’s crazy for Tommy Tremble to have zero catches. He had four games last year with zero yards and 10 games last year with less than 10 yards TOTAL - forget having a single reception over 10 yards. So we feel good about this one.

🏉 Bears vs. Panthers Injury Report & Latest News

The Bears have had some injury concerns this offseason but it sounds like a lot of those guys are going to go. Luther Burden missed a lot of time with a groin issue but he’s back out there. Rome Odunze has been limited with a foot problem but told reporters that he “plans on playing”. Kyle Monangai has also been working through a knee problem but he is cleared to play for this week. It does not sound like Ozzy Trapilo will be ready after a season-ending knee injury but most of the other starters are good.

With the Panthers, linebacker Patrick Jones has all but been ruled out already though the rest of the roster is looking pretty good. There was some concern about Jonathon Brooks being limited in practice, especially given his injury history, but it sounds like that was largely precautionary. It’s not so much an injury but I guess it’s worth mentioning that Darren Waller only recently joined the team and might not have his conditioning fully up to speed yet for a full workload.
