🤔 NFL Training Camp Updates For Today, 8/3
This weekend brought some injuries to exciting rookies and established stars alike, from Chiefs standout rookie receiver Cyrus Allen to reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett. There were also some new contracts announced, such as pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney making his return to the Houston Texans and offensive lineman Matthew Bergeron receiving an extension with the Atlanta Falcons. Today’s NFL training camp report features news regarding the NFL Hall of Fame Game and some rookie quarterback news. With all that being said, let’s dive in!
🏈 NFL Training Camp Live News - Kenny Pickett to Start Hall of Fame Game
Kenny Pickett to Start Hall of Fame Game
Former first-round pick and Super Bowl-winning quarterback Kenny Pickett (hey, he is TECHNICALLY a Super Bowl-winning quarterback) will receive the start for the Carolina Panthers during the NFL Hall of Fame Game against the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday, August 6th. The Cardinals have yet to announce their starting quarterback for the game, but it is likely to be rookie Carson Beck or veteran Gardner Minshew.
Historically, Kenny Pickett has put up phenomenal stats in the preseason, completing 73 of 95 (77%) passes for 674 yards and six touchdowns to zero interceptions over nine preseason games between 2022 and 2024. He will look to prove himself as Bryce Young’s new backup quarterback, replacing veteran Andy Dalton in the role.
Is Drew Allar the Future of the Pittsburgh Steelers?
With Aaron Rodgers entering his last season in the NFL, the Pittsburgh Steelers are once again facing quarterback purgatory. That being said, the future might not be all that bleak for the Black and Gold, as they might already have their future QB1 on the roster.
Rookie third-round pick Drew Allar has reportedly been turning heads in NFL training camp live news reports. The former Penn State Nittany Lion has always had the arm talent, but since being drafted to the Steelers, he has reportedly been reworking his mechanics, helping him make plays like this one.
It is also worth noting that Cardinals rookie quarterback Carson Beck has been showing out at camp as well. Many are projecting the Arizona Cardinals to end the 2026 NFL season with one of the lowest win totals, leading them to draft a quarterback in the 2027 draft, but they might end up giving Beck a shot if he continues making plays like this.
📈Fantasy Football Winners Of The Day
Cam Skattebo is the Clear RB1 in New York
It was already expected that the New York Giants would lean heavily into the run game, with investments to their offensive line, bringing in offensive coaches like Matt Nagy and Greg Roman, and easing star wide receiver Malik Nabers back after injury, but now people should REALLY be buying in on Cam Skattebo in fantasy football.
Skattebo is reportedly expected to be the Giants’ clear RB1 this season, with Tyrone Tracy and Devin Singletary only serving as complementary options in the passing game. Skattebo is currently being drafted as the RB20, and if he is going to serve as the Giants’ true bellcow, he should exceed his ADP greatly, making him a clear fantasy football training camp winner.
Malik Washington Shines as Miami’s WR1
Seemingly no one is touching the Miami Dolphins' passing game in fantasy football; the earliest a receiver is being drafted is as WR80. Well, that wide receiver has earned the trust of his new QB1, Malik Willis, according to reports, and is expected to be the surefire WR1 for the Dolphins. Malik Washington should be a fantasy football steal down the board and is an obvious fantasy football training camp winner.
📉 Fantasy Football Losers Of The Day
Who is Brock Purdy Throwing To?
You have to feel for the San Francisco 49ers. Seemingly every single day, a new 49ers player ends up on the injury report and a new player gets mentioned as a fantasy football training camp loser. Well, today that is Brock Purdy, as it seems like every single skill position player is dealing with an injury. George Kittle is still recovering from an Achilles injury, Christian Kirk and De’Zhaun Stribling were added to the injury report last week, Ricky Pearsall is out for the season, and now Mike Evans is missing practice with a quad strain.
Add in the fact that the running back room is also banged up (plus Brandon Aiyuk is certainly not suiting up for the 49ers), and now Brock Purdy has literally no one to work with. Thank goodness Deebo Samuel is back!
De'Von Achane Facing Competition?
De'Von Achane has regularly been a fantasy football gem over the past two years, bringing life to a Miami offense that needed a presence on the ground. Today, though, he is a fantasy football training camp loser, as he might not be the true bellcow that everyone thinks he is.
Dolphins' new head coach Jeff Hafley had some high praise for another running back in Miami: Ollie Gordon. He believes Ollie Gordon can be an every-down back and wants to see him push for that role.
On top of being attached to what is expected to be a bottom-five offense and bottom-five team in the NFL, if Achane is losing carries, he will not be worth his RB7 price tag.
🩼 NFL Training Camp Injury Updates - A.J. Brown Plays Through a Dislocated Thumb
When looking into an NFL training camp report, it is also important to stay up to date with all the injuries around the league and NFL Training Camp Live News. We already noted the countless injuries for the San Francisco 49ers in our NFL training camp report, so let’s take a deeper look into the NFL.
Dislocated Thumb? No Problem for A.J. Brown
During today’s practice, Patriots’ newly acquired receiver A.J. Brown reportedly dislocated his thumb while working against Christian Gonzalez. He did not let that slow him down, though, as he continued to practice, having another monster day.
After some early struggles in NFL training camp, Brown and Maye have started to form their connection, as they combined for three touchdowns today, despite Brown’s dislocated thumb.
Chicago Bears Secondary is Thin (Again)
Last season, the Chicago Bears lost cornerbacks Jaylon Johnson, Kyler Gordon, and Terell Smith among several other defensive players for almost the entire season. After the season, they lost safeties Jaquan Brisker and Kevin Byard plus corner Nahshon Wright to free agency. Now once again, the Bears' secondary is being decimated, as both Terell Smith and newly acquired Coby Bryant left practice early due to injury.
Bryant, one of the Bears' key free agency acquisitions, is expected to be sidelined for 8-10 weeks due to a hyperextended knee, bone bruise, and small fracture. While he avoided the need for surgery, he will miss the start of the 2026 season
Other Notable Injury Updates
- Ravens DT John Jenkins activated from the PUP list.
- Panthers DT Bobby Brown was activated from the non-football injury list.
- Bears RB Kyle Monangai is day-to-day with a soft tissue injury. He returned to practice today after several absences.
- Packers CB Carrington Valentine missed practice today due to a hamstring injury.
- Chiefs WRs Cyrus Allen and Xavier Worthy are expected to return to practice later this week.
- Buccaneers wide receivers Emeka Egbuka and Jalen McMillan sat out of practice today due to soreness.
