🤔 NFL Training Camp Updates For Today, 8/6
Yesterday brought some exciting news to several wide receiver rooms across the league. Notably, the Washington Commanders brought in veteran Stefon Diggs to help out Jayden Daniels in bouncing back to rookie form. Meanwhile, young receivers like Jayden Higgins of the Texans and Ja'Kobi Lane of the Ravens shined in practice. On top of all that, the day ended with an announcement of Aaron Donald’s official “tryout” with the Los Angeles Rams and some Vita Vea trade updates. Plenty more NFL live news has come out today to update you on, with more standout performances and contract extensions, so without further ado, let’s dive into our NFL training camp report!
🏈 NFL Training Camp Live News - Jonathan Taylor Extended by Indianapolis Colts
Jonathan Taylor Gets Paid
Just a couple of days ago, Jonathan Taylor joked about going to his agent after seeing Bijan Robinson’s contract extension. Well, Taylor and his agent must work quickly because early this morning it was announced that Taylor and the Colts agreed to terms on a two-year, $44 million extension worth up to $47 million that includes $39 million guaranteed.
Last season, Jonathan Taylor was an early frontrunner for Offensive Player of the Year before the season fell apart with injuries to Daniel Jones and other key players. Taylor still went on to lead the league with 18 rushing touchdowns (plus two receiving touchdowns).
With both Bijan Robinson and Jonathan Taylor locked up for the long term, it is expected that Jahmyr Gibbs will be the next star running back to receive an extension, as soon as today. We will keep you in the loop with our NFL training camp report.
Additionally, Houston Texans linebacker Henry To'oTo'o agreed to a two-year, $16 million extension with the team. To’oTo’o has been a key part of what has been one of the top defensive units in the NFL over the past few seasons.
Rookie Defensive Linemen Impress
In yesterday's NFL training camp report, we were able to highlight some young offensive players making plays at their respective practices. Today, we are flipping to the other side of the ball, with several defensive players making plays in the trenches.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive lineman Rueben Bain Jr. has reportedly been everything the Bucs could have hoped for in a first-round pick. Former Head Coach Jon Gruden even compared him to former All-Pro and Defensive Player of the Year James Harrison. With all the trade rumors surrounding defensive tackle Vita Vea, the Buccaneers will need Bain to contribute right away in order to compete for the NFC South crown.
Kansas City Chiefs and Minnesota Vikings rookie defensive tackles Peter Woods and Caleb Banks have also been flashing in their respective NFL training camps. Peter Woods has been the “clear standout” since the Chiefs put on pads, while Caleb Banks is expected to make an immediate impact for a very talented Vikings defense in need of reinforcements up front.
📈Fantasy Football Winners Of The Day
Josh Downs in a Bigger Role
In past years, wide receiver Josh Downs was a slot-only type of player for the Indianapolis Colts. This was a blessing and a curse for fantasy football players; he would get consistent catches, but didn’t have a full snap share to make him a true value at the wide receiver position. Now that the Colts have moved on from Michael Pittman, it seems like Josh Downs will be in an expanded role, with Head Coach Shane Steichen stating that he will be used both inside and outside. This could have massive implications for Downs' fantasy football stock, making him a fantasy football training camp winner.
Is Parker Washington the Jaguars’ WR1?
Who is the WR1 for the Jacksonville Jaguars? Is it the guy they traded for midseason? The guy they drafted in the first round two years ago? Or is it Parker Washington? Things are leaning toward Washington, as he has been consistently praised in NFL training camp reports for his route running and work ethic.
Today, Washington discussed his daily routine, mentioning that he is in at the team facility working by 5:00 AM. As a player who was already noted for being a “first guy in, last guy out” type of player, Washington should be able to build upon his breakout from the end of the 2025 season, when he had three straight games of 19+ fantasy points.
📉 Fantasy Football Losers Of The Day
Bhayshul Tuten Loses Goal-Line Work
There was a lot of hype surrounding Bhayshul Tuten as the Jacksonville Jaguars lead back entering the week. Since then, the Jags have put on the pads, and fellow running back Chris Rodriguez has been able to show off what sets him apart: his physicality.
Rodriguez has reportedly impressed with his ability to gain yards after contact, with people beginning to believe that he will take over the role as the Jaguars’ goal-line and short-yardage running back. With a hit to some valuable touches, Tuten’s draft slot as the RB25 no longer feels like a value, making him a fantasy football training camp loser.
Giants Passing Game Continues to Struggle
Who would’ve thought the New York Giants offense would struggle with Matt Nagy as their offensive coordinator!? Jokes aside, the defense has reportedly gotten the best of the Giants offense thus far into NFL training camp. The system, timing, missing Malik Nabers, and the quarterback play from Jaxson Dart have all left much to be desired thus far, so we may be fading some Giants players at their current ADPs in fantasy football drafts.
🩼 NFL Training Camp Injury Updates - Josh Jacobs, Jaylen Waddle Miss Practice
When looking into an NFL training camp report, it is also important to stay up to date with all the injuries around the league and NFL Training Camp Live News.
Josh Jacobs Out With a Groin Injury
Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs missed practice today due to a groin injury. According to Head Coach Matt LaFleur, the injury is not considered major. This has allowed for fellow running back MarShawn Lloyd to get some additional snaps, who has been shining thus far into training camp. Lloyd is a third-year player who has been unable to see much live NFL action due to injury.
Jaylen Waddle to Miss 4-5 Days
In yesterday’s NFL training camp report, we noted that Jaylen Waddle had to leave practice early due to injury. Today, he was seen at practice with his leg wrapped and a noticeable limp. Head Coach Sean Payton clarified that the injury is a “muscle strain” in Waddle’s leg and he will miss the next 4-5 days of practice.
