The Saturday matchups are absolutely pivotal for the playoff picture in both conferences, especially the AFC. The Los Angeles Chargers still have a chance to steal the division away from Denver, while the Houston Texans still need to secure their spot. Similarly, the Baltimore Ravens just want to keep their hope alive.

NFL Week 17 Predictions: Sunday, December 28th

Just to knock them out of the way, the Cardinals vs. Bengals, Saints vs. Titans, and Giants vs. Raiders games are ones that are meaningless for both sides of the matchup. Well, in terms of the postseason, of course, players and coaches are out there for their livelihoods, but we’ll just let you know now that they didn’t make the cut for our NFL best bets for Week 17.

As for the AFC North rivalry of Steelers vs. Browns, if Pittsburgh can knock off Cleveland, they’ll also knock the Ravens out of the playoffs (if they don’t lose on Saturday to begin with). That would mean a postseason without Lamar Jackson AND Patrick Mahomes! Speaking of a divisional rivalry, we’ve also got Jaguars vs. Colts to consider for our NFL expert picks.

After all, Jacksonville could actually end up the #1 seed in the AFC, while Indy could miss the playoffs entirely after starting the season as the last remaining undefeated team! Another consideration regarding our NFL best bets for Week 17 is the Sunshine State showdown of Buccaneers vs. Dolphins.

Eagles vs. Bills Best Bet: Jalen Hurts Anytime TD (+148 at Novig)

Among the late afternoon slate is that aforementioned potential Super Bowl preview, which is where we’re kicking things off. While the Bills are among the favorites in the AFC, that’s primarily thanks to Josh Allen being Superman more often than not. In other words, their defense is still not Super Bowl-worthy.

If not for TWO tipped interceptions last Sunday, even the Cleveland Browns could have scored 30+ on them, which is why we’re starting our NFL best bets for Week 17 with a focus on the defending champs. Has the Eagles' offense been great? No, but what has never failed them is the tush push.

Whether you hate watching it or not, it remains elite, and they’re going to want to put it on display against Buffalo. We say that because the only other team that even sniffs Philly’s effectiveness with that play is the Bills. Even without that being the case, Buffalo has allowed the absolute most rushing TDs in the entire NFL with 24!

That’s three more than even the terrible Dallas Cowboys defense - a defense in which the Philly QB scored TWO rushing TDs against! With that in mind, the first of our NFL best bets for Week 17 is Jalen Hurts to score an anytime TD (+148 at Novig). 
 

 

 

Buccaneers vs. Dolphins Best Bet: Tampa Bay -5 Points (-119 at Novig)

Next up, we’re heading to that aforementioned Sunshine State showdown. It’s one that only matters for one of the Florida teams, but it does so in a big way for Tampa Bay. If Baker Mayfield and company want the season finale against the Carolina Panthers to be for the NFC South title, they need a win here.

That’s why we’re keeping things simple with our NFL best bets for Week 17 in terms of trusting the more motivated team. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that Miami is just seeing what they have with third-string QB Quinn Ewers. Head coach Mike McDaniel may be coaching for his job, but we’ll take any point spread less than a touchdown here.

The Bucs are 5-0 against the spread and 9-1 ATS against their cross-state rivals, and while that spans over a long period, we’ve seen the spiral that Miami has been in this season. We expect this to be a big stat-padding offensive game for Tampa, perhaps one that includes an Emeka Egbuka anytime TD.
