Why RJ Harvey is a Top Fantasy Football Breakout Pick for 2025
I'm excited as a fantasy football expert about the Denver Broncos signing J.K. Dobbins, and it has absolutely nothing to do with why you might expect.Â
It's a treat for RJ Harvey fans like me! Harvey's ADP was through the roof with increasing numbers of people hearing of his upside, but Dobbins' signing has taken the heat out of that hype.Â
This provides wise drafters such as us the opportunity to get our hands on a player that I think is going to be a league-champion in Sean Payton and Joe Lombardi's high-scoring offense during the 2025 season.
Unlocking the “Alvin Kamara” Magic
Bring me back to 2017, when Alvin Kamara appeared out of nowhere for the Saints. I watched him flourish in a "joker" role alongside Sean Payton, even though he split backfield work with Mark Ingram and Adrian Peterson.
Kamara played all over the field, caught passes out of the backfield, and controlled in open space, finishing as the RB3 in fantasy while Ingram was RB7.Â
That's my blueprint for RJ Harvey. J.K. Dobbins is not stealing Harvey's job—instead, he'll fight Jaleel McLaughlin and Audric Estime for early-down opportunities. I think Harvey's specialty role is safe, waiting to flourish.
A System Built to Succeed
Why am I so sure of Harvey? It's the system. Over the past 18 years, I’ve studied every offense Joe Lombardi has coached, and they’ve consistently ranked top five in targets to running backs. Just last season, Denver’s Javonte Williams was a top-five RB in targets league-wide.Â
I’ve seen players like Reggie Bush, Austin Ekeler, and Kamara thrive in these schemes, and Harvey fits the mold perfectly. With his football IQ and explosiveness, I anticipate him to register almost 100 targets in 2025—a running back fantasy gold mine.
The Quarterback Advantage
What I like about Harvey, in my opinion, is that he's a converted quarterback. I enjoy the way his defensive recognition and playmaking ability make him a mismatch demon.Â
In Sean Payton's imaginative offense, I already see Harvey catching dump passes out of the backfield and cutting through defenses in space. His skill set is RB1 potential, and I think he'll produce at a fraction of the draft price.
My Call to Action
If you're drafting in 2025, I'm challenging you to reach for RJ Harvey. His ADP might have taken a hit with Dobbins in the facility, but I consider that a heist.Â
Look at the Fantasy Alarm draft guide and see where you can find the ideal spot to steal him in—I'm saying it, this man can swing open your league wide.Â
Flexibility being the game at running back in fantasy, I'm all-in on Harvey as a difference-maker to your team.
