Are you ready to destroy your opponents in fantasy and DFS in Week 3? You better be! Week 2 was a resounding success for the #FAmily after we nailed several crucial start/sit decisions across the slate. We told you to start Dak Prescott, Garrett Wilson, and value-stud Rashod Bateman, all of whom delivered big-time fantasy outings, while advising you to sit Rhamondre Stevenson and MarShawn Lloyd, saving managers from brutal lineup duds. Now, as we turn our attention to the upcoming games, navigating the fantasy football matchups in Week 3 presents a prime opportunity to build on that momentum. Whether you are looking to stream a signal-caller or dodge a treacherous defensive front, evaluating the best fantasy football matchups while benching players saddled with the worst fantasy football matchups is the key to locking in a Week 3 victory.

Best Fantasy Football Matchups for Week 3

Identifying the best fantasy football matchups for Week 3 requires isolating explosive skill players in fast-paced offenses or against secondary units that have struggled in early-season action.

Brock Purdy, QB San Francisco 49ers

Purdy enters Week 3 firing on all cylinders following a dominant 35-13 blowout win over the Miami Dolphins in Week 2. In Week 3, he stays at Levi's Stadium to take on an Arizona Cardinals defense that has given up significant chunk plays through the air in back-to-back weeks. With San Francisco's full complement of elite playmakers operating at peak efficiency, Purdy's high yards-per-attempt floor and touchdown upside make him a premier QB1 option, especially against a defense that already ranks 26th in DVOA against the pass.

Ashton Jeanty, RB Las Vegas Raiders

Here we go! Another prime matchup for our sweet, sweet baby. The dynamic rookie back announced his arrival with a massive 102-rushing-yard, two-touchdown performance in Week 1 and followed it up with a heavy work rate in Las Vegas' Week 2 win over the Chargers. Going on the road to face the New Orleans Saints in Week 3, Jeanty gets a favorable matchup against a defense that just surrendered 24 points to Baltimore. Jeanty’s combination of goal-line carries and passing-game usage gives him elite RB1 upside. Let’s just hope the drops don’t persist this week. He had two last week that were, obviously, disappointing.

Carnell Tate, WR Tennessee Titans

This may surprise some people, but drafted fourth overall in the 2026 NFL Draft, Tate has seamlessly stepped in as Tennessee's primary target earner. Headed to East Rutherford to face the New York Giants, Tate gets a secondary that has struggled to contain perimeter wideouts in deep coverage. In fact, they rank dead last in DVOA against the opposing WR1 and have allowed an average of 125 receiving yards per game to them over the first two weeks. Tate’s polished route running and red-zone involvement make him a high-end WR2 play this week.

Worst Fantasy Football Matchups for Week 3

Spotting the worst fantasy football matchups before kickoff is essential to protecting your fantasy floor and benching players facing elite defensive fronts.

Jared Goff, QB Detroit Lions

Uh oh. Do I smell an upset coming? Goff and the Lions host the New York Jets at Ford Field in a matchup featuring one of the stingiest pass defenses in the league. The Jets excel at generating pressure while dropping seven into coverage, limiting clean throwing lanes. Coming off a grueling physical battle against Buffalo, Goff’s ceiling is heavily capped in what projects to be a tight, low-scoring defensive affair.

Bucky Irving, RB Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Irving faces a tough test in Week 3 as Tampa Bay hosts the Minnesota Vikings. Brian Flores is a defensive master, and Minnesota’s front seven has been stout against the run through the first two weeks, holding Chicago to just three points in Week 2. Irving will struggle to find running room inside the tackles, making him a touchdown-dependent RB3 option best left on the bench if you have comparable alternatives.

Xavier Hutchinson, WR Houston Texans

Tough to tell why so many people like him. He’s in there for his blocking, not his receiving, and with Nico Collins likely out again, there is little to no one to draw coverage away at all. Houston's offense sputtered in Week 2, managing only six points in a loss to Cincinnati. Going on the road to face a divisional foe in the Indianapolis Colts, Hutchinson draws tough boundary coverage in a low-volume passing scheme. Until Houston's aerial attack finds its rhythm, Hutchinson carries too low of a floor to trust in starting lineups.

Fantasy Football Matchups to Target

When digging deeper into fantasy football matchups Week 3, these players present strong situational upside that fantasy managers should actively target in starting lineups.

Sam Darnold, QB Seattle Seahawks

Should Darnold be available for this game, I expect him to command the Seattle offense with poise, leading the Seahawks to a solid and somewhat convincing win over the Patriots in Week 1. He likely would have done the same to Arizona in Week 2 had it not been for this hip/glute issue. In Week 3, Seattle travels east to face a Washington Commanders defense that has conceded high passing yardage and multiple touchdowns to opposing quarterbacks. Darnold’s downfield aggressiveness and clean pocket protection should position him as a top-10 fantasy quarterback. If Darnold is unable to suit up, I am equally as confident in Drew Lock and would certainly start him as well.

Breece Hall, RB New York Jets

While the Detroit Lions feature a physical front seven, they are ranked 31st in DVOA against the run this season and Breece Hall's dual-threat skill set makes him kind of matchup-proof. The Jets will lean heavily on Hall in the short passing game to offset Detroit's pass rush. His high target volume and breakaway speed ensure he remains a locked-in RB1 with game-script protection regardless of the opponent. Let’s just hope Frank Reich offers him the goal-line touches so Braelon Allen doesn’t end up with all the credit.

Fantasy Football Matchups to Avoid

To round out our breakdown of the worst fantasy football matchups, these starters carry elevated risk due to tough road environments and stout opposing defenses.

Matthew Stafford, QB Los Angeles Rams

Stafford leads the Rams into Mile High to take on a Denver Broncos defense that forced multiple turnovers against Jacksonville in Week 2. The altitude combined with Denver’s relentless pass rush creates a hazardous setup for Stafford, limiting his touchdown potential in a game expected to be dominated by defense and field position. And let’s not forget that the corners will happily yank down a receiver rather than get beat, so those potential pass interference calls could end up as short-yardage rushing touchdowns for Kyren Williams.

Bhayshul Tuten, RB Jacksonville Jaguars

Jacksonville’s ground game found little breathing room in Week 2 against Denver. In Week 3, Tuten faces a New England Patriots defense that smothered Pittsburgh, allowing just three points and minimal rushing yards. Clogged running lanes, the presence of Chris Rodriguez, and a lack of sustained target share make Tuten an easy sit for Week 3.
