Yesterday’s NBA best bets ‘Bet of the Night’ and the game of the night lived up to the hype, but the better team won. Just as Fantasy Alarm predicted, the Cleveland Cavaliers covered their spread.

Unfortunately, RJ Barrett was unable to score 20 points, nor did Scottie Barnes. The Toronto Raptors could not score 100 either, and the correlation between those two and team total is there.

The Well did not deliver and that caused a loss of one unit. However, we will be going back to Nikola Vucevic at some point, and had it been successful we would have another positive day.

NBA Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 1/9

There are eight games today with only Minnesota and Orlando broadcasted on national TV.

There are several teams in back to back games and all games begin at 7:00 PM ET or later.

Heat vs. Jazz Prediction: Walker Kessler Ladder - O10.5 Rebounds (-135 on DraftKings), 13+ Rebounds (+160 on DraftKings) *Bet of the Day

Walker Kessler sounds like a name from a 1950s western movie, but he is actually a third-year center for the Utah Jazz. He may have made it on the column last year, but this is the first time this season we have mentioned him. He’s making his first appearance, but his stats have been monitored as of late.

Kessler is a great rebounding center that will have size over opponent Bam Adebayo. Kessler is a true 7’ 0” center, and although many may think he has underperformed, he is one of the most consistent players on the Jazz’s roster.

He’s averaging 29.6 minutes per game with a double-double season average as well. 10.7 points is not the ideal, but most coaches are going to be happy with 11.2 rebounds per game. Kessler has covered over 10.5 rebounds in seven of his last ten games and should do it again tonight.

In the Jazz’s most recent match against the Miami Heat, on January fourth, Kessler snagged 16 rebounds, and covering the set line seems automatic if he plays his average minutes. The second step of the ladder (13+ Rebounds) is on the alternate line. A difference of almost +100 for two more rebounds is a smart bet, and spreading two units in case of a loss is even more wise.

Put one unit each on Kessler’s ladder prediction.

Hornets vs. Lakers Prediction: Charlotte Team Total Over 105.5 (-115 on Bet365)

The Los Angeles Lakers were absolutely awful in their last performance against the Dallas Mavericks B team. The expectations were much higher for them in that game, but they are not playing great defense.

Los Angeles has allowed 114.0 points per game this season and have a -2.2-point differential. Those are terrible marks, particularly for a team with championship aspirations. They host the Charlotte Hornets today, and the Hornets have players capable of scoring early and often.

For the Hornets it starts with LaMelo Ball who is healthy and should have a great performance against the Lakers. The Hornets starting lineup is healthy, and all but Grant Williams are clear of designations.

Charlotte really holds fate in their own hands and scored 115 points in their most recent game against the Phoenix Suns. They have scored above their average of 106.1 in three of their last six games, and against a poor defensive team should score over 105.5 tonight. Put a unit on them to do that.

NBA Player Props & Other Picks Today, 1/9

The Atlanta Hawks have had several players mentioned in Fantasy Alarm NBA Best Bets.

That continues today on what has been a successful wager as of late.

Hawks vs. Suns Prediction: Clint Capela Under 8.5 Rebounds (-110 on Bet365)

This bet has been a successful wager as of late but has not been mentioned until now. Fantasy Alarm has accurately predicted two over rebounding lines for Capela. Lately his under has been a profitable angle, as the Hawks have really restricted the veteran's minutes. He has played 25 or less minutes in each of the last four games.

Atlanta is currently ninth in the Eastern Conference but only one game back from the Milwaukee Bucks who are in fifth. It is a tight cluster and the Hawks have an offense that could create problems. There is a chance they are saving Capela for what they anticipate to be a playoff run, or they could be playing their youth more.

Either way Capela has recorded seven or fewer rebounds in four straight games and eight of his last night games. The Phoenix Suns are a top eleven rebounding team, allowing just 51.9 per game. The Suns have a tall and athletic front court, and Devin Booker is a good rebounding guard. Put a unit on his under tonight.
