NBA Best Bets Today, 5/4: Picks, Predictions & Player Props - Sunday
The Denver Nuggets took care of business, and in a fashion Fantasy Alarm predicted. Los Angeles was simply too spent, and the wind was knocked out of their sails. James Harden’s game 7 woes continue, in another terrible display.
Aaron Gordon easily cleared his 15.5 points, and was every bit of the “X factor” we predicted. So much so that he was the Nuggets leading scorer with 22 points.
The total went well over 202.5 thanks to the offensive display of the Nuggets. They scored 120 points, and did most of that damage in just three quarters. We predicted the Nuggets were going to destroy the Clippers in game seven, and we teased the line from 1.5 to a margin of 6 - 10. Unfortunately that was not enough, as they won by 19 points… in game seven.
However Meatloaf is back on the menu! The betting of Denver lead us to win two out of three bets, and as always ‘Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad’.
NBA Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 5/4
One playoff series begins, and one playoff series comes to an end, a rare combination in the NBA. A divisional rivalry starts what should be an exciting and fast paced series, and a match between the new kids on the block and the old guys on the corner ends the night.
There is a deep dive for each of these games under the ‘Betting - NBA’ tab, make sure to check those out for more bankroll building wagers. The first NBA best bet comes from the first match of the conference semifinals.
Pacers vs Cavaliers Prediction: IND +8.0 (-112 on FanDuel Sportsbook) *BET OF THE NIGHT
The Cleveland Cavaliers breezed through the Miami Heat, with a 4 - 0 sweep, and the largest margin of victory in a close out game in the history of the Association. The series was never close as Cleveland displayed why they are the #1 seed of the Eastern Conference. But trouble is coming and they know it.
Their Central Division rival, the Indiana Pacers, are coming to town. They have a coach that has won as a player, and as a Head Coach. They have an All-Star player that has won an NBA title, and arguably the best player of the first round. Rick Carlisle, Pascal Siakam, Tyrese Haliburton, and the Indiana Pacers are more than a handful for the Cavaliers.
The Pacers were victorious against the Cavaliers in three of four matches this season. One-Sixth of the Cavaliers losses came from one team this season, it’s almost as if they have their number. Despite that they are underdogs by +8.0 points in this series. It’s a bit of a head scratcher, and the rationale is that Cleveland was so good in the first round it should continue into round two.
The Pacers only played five games, have had plenty of rest, and are more than capable of winning this match. Instead of risking a moneyline wager on the road, put a unit on the unbelievably high spread for game one. 8 points is a lot to lose by in the playoffs, even for two of the better offenses in the Association. Put a unit on FanDuel and for those new to the sportsbook, make sure to take advantage of the promotional offer for Bonus Bets.
Pacers vs Cavaliers Prediction: Andrew Nembhard Over 12.5 Points (-110 on Bet365)
Andrew Nembhard is relatively unknown outside of Pacers fans, and basketball junkies. However he is a crucial starting member of the Indiana Pacers, and outperformed his expectations against the Milwaukee Bucks. He seems poised to do it again against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Milwaukee attempted, and for the most part, was successful at keeping Haliburton from high scoring throughout the series. That forced Haliburton to find his teammates, not that it is a concern as he had one of the highest assists totals in the regular season. He averaged 9.2 assists per game in the regular season, and had 10 or more in all but one game of the first round.
Nembhard was the benefactor of several of those assists, and a sneaky good value for DFS. Remember to check out Fantasy Alarm’s daily DFS predictions, as the gang has been winning with consistency during the playoffs. Nembhard has scored more than 12.5 points in four of the five games against the Bucks. He scored 15 or more in all four of those games with 59 field goal attempts thus far in the playoffs. The one game he didn’t score over 12.5 points was the only match he didn’t attempt double-digit field goals.
The Cavaliers have a great defense, anchored by Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen, but Nembhard gets lost as a wing player and should be able score over Max Strus, Donovan Mitchell, and Darius Garland. Put a unit on this best bet at Bet365 and make sure to take advantage of the promotional offer at the end of this article.
Best NBA Prop Bets & Other Picks Today, 5/4
The last NBA best bet today comes in a match that many had written off as finished. A battle of two cities on the bay. One on the Pacific Ocean and the other on the Gulf of Mexico.
Warriors vs Rockets Prediction: Houston -2.5 (-115 on BetMGM)
The Houston Rockets host the Golden State Warriors at the Toyota Center in a win or go home game for both teams. Golden State was up 3 - 1 against the second placed Rockets, and many had them penciled in with a match against the Minnesota Timberwolves. However the young and tough Rockets have other plans, after all they are #2 seed of the Western Conference.
Houston is 31 - 13 at home this season (including the postseason) and have proven to be a difficult out in the Lone Star State. They are mostly an inexperienced roster, but Fred VanFleet has been a leader on a NBA championship team. He played like it two days ago, and if he replicates even 85% of the numbers from game six, the Warriors will be in trouble.
Golden State has been in this position before, in possibly the most famous 3 - 1 let down in NBA history. They lost to the 2016 NBA Champion Cleveland Cavaliers in the only 3 - 1 turn around in NBA Finals history. That is just one of the Stephen Curry/Draymond Green led Warriors five playoff series losses. Can the Rockets make it six?
History is against them, but history doesn’t have much significance in the competitive moment, and that is what game seven will be. Competitive, tough, fast paced, with mental grit fully on display. The spread is low one, and the Rockets seem to have figured out something against the Warriors.
It is the old era versus the new era. The expectation is for Alperen Sengun and Amen Thompson to take that next step and lead their team to the Western Conference Semifinals. Put a unit on Houston to cover the -2.5 spread at BETMGM, and for those new to the app make sure to check out Fantasy Alarm’s promotional offer for up to $1,500 back in bonus bets.
