Another rough outing yesterday in the betting world. The Detroit Pistons won the match against the Boston Celtics, and it lived up to the best game of the day… just as we predicted. The issue was Detroit did not score enough in the fourth quarter, and were unable to cover the -3.5 spread.

The Los Angeles Clippers did win a close game against the Washington Wizards. But there were not nearly enough points scored. The final score was 110 - 106, which was 11 points short of the 227 needed. Jalen Johnson put up a magnificent performance, but it was not good enough for a triple-double. In forty minutes, he logged 28 points, 16 rebounds, and 6 assists. Four more assists would have won us the best bet.

There are seven games today, two of which are nationally televised on NBC/Peacock. The first of which features the first best bet of today. And when life gets too hard (or not hard enough), we hit the glass. Rebounds, that is.

NBA Best Bets Today, 1/20: Picks, Predictions & Player Props - Tuesday

San Antonio Spurs vs Houston Rockets: Tuesday 1/20

Game Time: 8:00 PM ET | TV: NBC/Peacock | Location: Toyota Center | Odds: HOU -4.5 | O/U 228.5

It is a Lone Star State showdown and the battle of Interstate 10. The Houston Rockets host the San Antonio Spurs in the first nationally televised game today. Both teams are playing well, and this is a possible preview of a playoff series. It’s difficult to say which team will win this match, even though Houston is favored by -4.5 points. So stay away from the moneyline and the spread.

The Spurs have been defeating the best of the best. Victor Wembanyama has been outspoken about how playing against the best competition brings out the best in him. He has proven it with great games against the Oklahoma City Thunder, and most recently, against the Minnesota Timberwolves. However, the expectation is for him to record less than 9.5 rebounds against the tall lineup of the Rockets.

Houston allows the least amount of rebounds to opposing teams, with an average of 38.4 per game. It is an emphasis of their team philosophy. Wembanyama has recorded over 9.5 rebounds in just three of his last eight matches. He excels away from the basket in mismatches against smaller backcourts. Put a unit on the Rocket limiting Wembanyama’s rebounding opportunities.

Los Angeles Lakers vs Denver Nuggets: Tuesday 1/20

Game Time: 10:00 PM ET | TV: NBC/Peacock | Location: Ball Arena | Odds: LAL -2.5 | O/U 228.5

Ball Arena will be bumping as the Denver Nuggets host their bitter rival, the Los Angeles Lakers. It’s the second nationally televised match on NBC/Peacock, and it is projected to be a close one. The Lakers are currently -2.5 point favorites on the road. Denver is not healthy, but they were embarrassed by the Charlotte Hornets in their most recent match.

The Nuggets usually respond well to losses and play better after rest. They are still without three starters: Nikola Jokic, Cameron Johnson, and Christian Braun. That will put more pressure on their frontcourt, and Aaron Gordon is the person we are relying on.

He is back from injury, but doesn’t look 100%. However, he is getting closer to full health as the season progresses. He has recorded over 6.5 rebounds in three of his last five games, and he didn’t play against the Hornets. So he is well rested for this match against the Lakers, a team he always steps up his competition for. Put a unit on the best bet of Gordon recording over 6.5 rebounds.

NBA King of the Court Bet Today, 1/20

The last best bet of the day doesn’t strictly focus on rebounds. It is the King of the Court bet found exclusively on Draftkings. You must click on the promotion and opt in on your betting ticket. As mentioned, this is a chalky play, as DraftKings wants to give out a low amount of free bets to several people, not a large free bet to a few people.

With seven games today, there are plenty of options to win the distinction of King of the Court, the player with the highest total of combined points + rebounds + assists (PRA). Luka Doncic is the favorite to lead all, as he has won these two times. Tyrese Maxey has won this award and is playing today, as is James Harden, Victor Wembanyama, and Lauri Markkanen.

However, Anthony Edwards is our choice. He scored 55 points in his most recent match, a career high. He is not a great rebounder, nor does he get a lot of assists. But he is a scoring machine, and playing against the team that allows the most points per game in the Association.  The Utah Jazz are not concerned with defense in the least bit, and they allow an average of 127.5 points per game. Edwards publicly stated that he is going to go for personal records against bad teams, and this is a great opportunity for him to put his money where his mouth is. Put a unit on Edwards to earn 40+ PRA and be the King of the Court.
