As the 2022 MLB season comes to a close, today is our last abbreviated slate as some teams get their last off day of the regular season in. The result of that is a schedule that is all over the place as far as timing goes. From a DFS perspective, we are considering the four games that begin at 1 pm on the east coast as the MLB DFS main slate. As we work through setting our lineups, make sure to follow along with the latest MLB weather, MLB news, and MLB lineups. Now, let us take a look at some MLB DFS value picks for this afternoon.

MLB DFS Value Pitchers

Jonathan Heasley (KC); DraftKings - $7,100; FanDuel - $7,200; Yahoo - $31

In what has been a common theme for me as of late, I look to target the Tigers offense once again with Heasley. With a wRC+ of just 80, Detroit comes in as the worst offense in the league batting .230 with a 24.2% strikeout rate and Heasley is in position to exploit that. Earlier this month, Heasley threw seven innings of two run ball against Detroit to pick up the victory with the only issue being the fact that he struck out just two batters. After posting a 3.00 ERA in August, Heasley has a 3.80 ERA in September with batters hitting just .226 against him.

Eduardo Rodriguez (DET); DraftKings - $7,500; FanDuel - $8,300; Yahoo - $37

On a shortened slate, I am going to go with the name recognition of the veteran in a solid matchup against Kansas City. While Rodriguez might not have the upside as someone like Heasley, there is a workable floor here and the left-hander pitched at least six innings in three of his last four starts while allowing no more than three runs in those starts. It has been an uneven and disruptive season for Rodriguez but he does have a solid track record.

MLB DFS Value Hitters

Gavin Sheets, 1B/OF (CWS); DraftKings -$2,500; FanDuel - $2,500; Yahoo - $14

With 15 home runs in 389 plate appearances this season, it is obvious what we are looking for out of Sheets. The fact that he has the platoon advantage this afternoon (.252 batting average with all of his home runs) against a middling right-hander in Louie Varland pushes things even further into Sheets’ corner and this is a value I am looking to exploit.

Luis Arraez, 1B/2B/3B (MIN); DraftKings - $3,200; FanDuel - $2,800; Yahoo - $9

I know that power and upside is the name of the game here, but for a player who is in serious competition to take home the batting title, Arraez is simply too cheap. Yes, he is facing one of the better pitchers on today’s slate in Lucas Giolio, but the Chicago right-hander is hittable as well. The versatile infielder has hits in five straight games and is batting .313 with eight home runs and 84 runs scored this season and I like him batting third today.

Triston Casas, 1B (BOS); DraftKings - $2,200; FanDuel - $2,900; Yahoo - $17

The name of the game is to chase the most upside with your value plays and Casas certainly provides that. It does not hurt that Boston is projected to score about five runs this afternoon against Mike Baumann and his 4.32 ERA (5.37 xERA). Over his last 10 games, Casas has three home runs and is hitting .308 with seven runs and six RBI which puts him on the track we expected when he was promoted.

Brandon Marsh, OF (PHI); DraftKings - $2,100; FanDuel - $2,200; Yahoo - $13

Marsh has been a solid, and regular, contributor since joining the Phillies and he is in a solid spot tonight against Javier Assad. Over his last 10 games, things have been especially good for Marsh as he is hitting .344, and today we get the outfielder pretty close to minimum price and he is also better with the platoon advantage this season (.259 vs. .189).
